Tragedy struck in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos last Friday when a former Supervisory Councillor in the Kosofe Local Government Area, Olu Ogunbanjo, died from a generator fire which razed his music shop. 51-year-old Ogunbanjo, who served in the LGA between 2003 and 2007, died at the General Hospital, Gbagada, from the burns sustained during the incident.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase, recently decried the N1 billion costs incurred by the police on the settlement of court judgments in rights violation cases within the last three years.  He expressed his strong exception to this avoidable waste of money at a recent workshop on the use of force and firearms, organised by the police in conjunction with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Kaduna State Police Command yesterday arraigned 120 suspected members of a new terrorists group known as Sara- Suka before a Kaduna court.  The suspects were assigned to various magistrate courts by the Chief Magistrate court One, Awaulu Musa Aliyu, for the continuation of the case and were later taken back into police custody.

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a 19-year-old wife, Abiodun Ojo, and her partner, Wesu Akan, 20, before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court for the alleged murder of one Jimoh Ojo. It was reported that Jimoh died from drinking a poisoned bottle of soft drink given to him by Abiodun on June 19 at Makoko, Lagos State..

A man, Damilola Ibitokun, has committed suicide, as his body was found on a tree in a bush at Ero town in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State. His family members described the incident as a mystery, saying nobody could explain why the man hung himself. The deceased’s wife, Muibat Ibitokun, said her husband was gentle, adding that he had no reason to take his life.

A middle-aged woman is currently recuperating in a Lagos hospital, after robbers stormed her rented apartment on the Lagos Island, during which she stabbed one of the assailants to death. The woman, identified simply as Adenike, and her family were attacked on Tuesday at about 2am on Eyin Iga Street. Our correspondent gathered that the robbers, who were armed with knives and cutlasses, reportedly gained entrance into the house after damaging the gates.

The General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that he is not expecting a ministerial appointment from President Muhammadu Buhari. Bakare, who spoke in an interview with Sahara TV monitored by our correspondent on Thursday, however, parried a question on whether he would accept a ministerial appointment if offered by the President. Microsoft on Thursday sacked 34 (85 per cent) of the 40 employees in the Nigerian office of its phone division. The sacking came 24 hours after the company’s latest Windows 10 was made available in Nigeria and 189 other countries. Although, Windows 10 is now available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8.1 operating systems or with new personal computers and tablets, industry experts said it would leave about 15 million Nigerian payments cards prone to hacking.

Angry workers of the Peoples Democratic Party have accused the members of the National Working Committee of the party of squandering N12bn in nine months. Out of the total sum, the workers said N11bn was realised from the sale of nomination forms while N1bn was got from the sale of delegates forms. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied the allegation by the PDP that the Director-General of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, is a card-carrying member of the party (APC), calling the accusation absurd and frivolous.
