Father allegedly rapes three daughters, attacks wife

A distraught mother, Tope Ogba, on Monday, explained to a Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, how her husband, Gabriel Ogba, allegedly raped their two adult daughters and their 13-year-old sister. Gabriel is standing trial for sexually molesting his daughters aged 25 and 20 years, and their underage sister at their residence in Oke-Ogbe town, Atura bus stop, Badagry, Lagos, and almost setting ablaze his wife when she reported him to the authorities. Tope, while being led in evidence by the state counsel, Arinola Momoh-Ayokanbi, said she did not notice the sexual molestation, which according to her, had gone on for a number of years until it was revealed by the youngest daughter. She said, “I did not know what was going on; it was when he molested my third daughter that I got to know about what was going on and I later heard about the sexual act on my older daughters from people outside.

Police arrest jealous housewife for allegedly killing husband

The Police in Kano State on Tuesday arrest housewife, Rashida Muhammad, in Dorayi Quarters for allegedly pushing her husband to his death on the stairs. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the incident in Kano State to the News Agency of Nigeria. Haruna said the incident occurred on February 25, at 8 p.m.

Presidential result: Atiku floors Buhari in Edo, as PDP picks two senate seats

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has been declared the winner of last presidential election in Edo state. The Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 275,691 votes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari who scored 267,691 votes to come second. Although Buhari won in 10 of the 18 local government areas, votes scored by Atiku, who won in eight local government areas were enough to beat the APC candidate with a margin of 7,849 votes. The State Collation Officer, Ndowa Lale, who announced the result, said the total number of registered voters in the State was 2,150,127 while the total number of accredited voters stood at 604,915. He said the number of valid votes was 560,711 out of the was 599,228 votes cast, and 38,517 votes were rejected.

Buhari set for victory as INEC announces results from 12 states, FCT

President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) seems set for victory in Saturday’s presidential election. He is leading his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenger Atiku Abubakar in seven of the 11 states announced by the electoral umpire—as at 12:45am. Atiku won in four and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The collation of the results continues at 10am today. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the results at the International Conference Centre (ICC), venue of the National Collation Centre in Abuja. Of the 11 states and the FCT that had been announced by the electoral umpire, President Buhari was leading in seven states, losing in the others to Atiku.

FIRS goes after 85,000 millionaire tax debtors

The Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr Tunde Fowler, has said that the Service, in collaboration with other stakeholders like the Nigeria Police Force, will this year go after wealthy tax defaulters. Fowler said this on Thursday in Abuja when the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, paid a courtesy visit to the Revenue House. A statement from the FIRS on Thursday said Fowler informed the police boss that already the service had realised the sum of N23bn based on a closer look at the books of 45,000 tax debtors. He said each of the 45,000 tax debtors had over N100m as turnover in their accounts. The Service, he said, would be going after another set of over 40, 000 millionaire tax defaulters in 2019. He requested the Nigeria Police to assist the Service to bring the tax defaulters to pay their taxes. Jimi Agbaje, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, says removing heavy-duty vehicles from highways due to President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state is hypocritical and wicked. Trucks, which had littered major roads in the state and hindered free flow of traffic, were evacuated few hours to Buhari’s visit for his reelection campaign. Speaking at a town hall meeting in the state on Friday, Agbaje said the government knew the solution to the incessant traffic jam on major highways but had decided to punish residents of the state.

Drama as hoodlums strip corps members naked

Two female members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ebonyi State have become the latest victims of the pants-for rituals menace ravaging sections of the country. The two corps members, it was gathered, were forced by some yet-to-be-identified unidentified hoodlums to remove their clothes, including their pants and hand them over to them (hoodlums). One of the corps members, who was on her period, had her blood socked pants and sanitary pads taken away by the hoodlums. The incident, it was further learnt, happened at Oshiegbe community, near the boundary between Ohaukwu and Ezza North council area of the state. Explaining the shortfall in the 2019 budget, Ambode said the budget performance of 2018 was put into consideration before preparing the 2019 budget.

Soldier commits suicide after killing 16-year-old wife

A Cambodian military officer killed himself after shooting dead his 16-year-old wife with an AK-47 rifle after he allegedly refused her request for a divorce, local media reported on Tuesday.   “Second Lt. Vong Tol, 32, shot his wife, Uy Sokhom, in the chest in their home in the northern province of Preah Vihear on Sunday before shooting himself in the head. “He was angry with the wife for wanting to divorce him,’’ Capt. Chuon Narong, a district penal police officer, told the Times. Narong said neighbours had heard the couple arguing earlier Sunday, with Tol reportedly accusing his wife of having an affair, which she denied.

Islamic cleric, three others arrested with human skull in Ogun

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested an Islamic cleric, Jamiu Olasheu, 35, and three others for being in unlawfull possession of a human skull. It was gathered that a police patrol team from the Agbara Division, which was on routine crime prevention patrol of the area, accosted two men on a motorcycle at the Kofedoti area of Agbara. When the men, Teslim Ayeniromo, 45, and Sunday Kolade, 35, were searched, a human skull was discovered in a sack found with them. Confirming the arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the duo were promptly arrested and taken to the Agbara Divisional headquarters, where the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adegbite Omotayo, personally interrogated them.

The re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari got a boost on Monday when Mr Olujonwo Obasanjo, son of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, stormed the United States to galvanise Nigerians to support Buhari for the Feb. 16 presidential election. Obasanjo, who is the President, The Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO), said he was in the United States to solicit support for Buhari’s re-election among Nigerian in the diaspora and other members of the international community. He explained that his support for the re-election of the president was due to his focus on youth empowerment and securing the future of the country for the Nigerian youth. 2 killed at El-rufai’s political rally in Kaduna

Two persons were killed at Unguwar Mu’azu, a suburd of Kaduna Metropolis, as youth gangs clashed on Monday when Governor Nasir El-rufai went to the community as part of his campaign tour. It was gathered that while the governor was addressing the crowd at the Primary School in Unguwar Mu’azu, some people were seen shouting and attacking one other few meters away from the rally ground. It was not clear if they were part of the campaign rally but ‎eyewitnesses ‎told Daily Trust that the rival groups used dangerous weapons like knives and machetes to attack each other before they were later chased away by security agents and civilian JTF stationed at the venue. Baban Khalifa, an eyewitness said “We were inside the primary school premises venue of the campaign rally when we saw, from a distance, youths attacking one another. We heard that they were from Yan tsulhu and Ba tsulhu‎ rival groups.

Zambia suspends controversial reality show

Zambia’s broadcasting regulator on Tuesday ordered Africa’s biggest television operator, Multichoice, to suspend a reality show for allegedly promoting homosexuality. The Independent Broadcasting Authority said Multi Choice Zambia, a unit of the South Africa-based television operator, should immediately suspend the “Lusaka Hustle’’ reality show on its Zambezi Magic on the DSTV platform. According to the regulator, this follows public outcries that the show promoted a lifestyle contrary to Zambia’s values and culture.

Musiliu Obanikoro, former minister of state for defence, says it is painful testifying against Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti state. Obanikoro is one of the witnesses testifying against Fayose, who is standing an alleged N2.2bn fraud trial. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Fayose for allegedly taking N2.2bn from the office of Sambo Dasuki, ex-national security adviser (NSA) for his governorship election in 2014. The EFCC said Fayose received the N2.2bn from Dasuki, through Obanikoro. While being cross-examined by Olalekan Ojo, Fayose’s counsel, Obanikoro said he was testifying against Fayose reluctantly because they enjoyed a good relationship while they were both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

President Muhammdu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday arrived in Akure, the Ondo State capital, amidst heavy security on a campaign visit to Ondo and Ekiti states for the 2019 general elections. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Buhari and Vice President started their campaign from Ekiti to seek re-election to their offices as candidates of the All Progressives Congress. Angry constituents beat Ondo federal lawmakers during Osinbajo’s visit

The Senator representing the Ondo-South Senatorial District, Yele Omogunwa, was on Thursday allegedly assaulted by some residents of Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State during a visit by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to the palace of the monarch of Idepe town, Oba Michael Adetoye. Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency, Mr Bamidele Baderinwa, was allegedly beaten by some youths in Idanre on Wednesday during Osinbajo’s visit to the traditional ruler of Idanre town. It took the intervention of the security details of the Vice-President, who whisked the lawmaker away from the scene, to save the situation. Omogunwa, who is the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming general elections, was said to be in the vice-president’s entourage when the incident happened.

Buhari mentally and physically unfit to govern, says CUPP

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has sought a court order to disqualify President Muhammadu Buhari from contesting the February 16 elections. In a statement, Ikenga Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesman, said Buhari is “mentally and physically unfit” to rule Nigeria. The coalition gave reasons for its submission, saying the president “goofed” at his “uninspiring” re-election campaigns in Delta and Kogi state. CUPP also made reference to Buhari’s absence at the presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Election Debate Group, adding that Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president, had to “come to his rescue” at a town hall meeting that held recently.

Nigerians to pay for National ID Card from 2022 – NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Thursday said Nigerians will begin to pay for the National Identity Card from year 2022. The Director General of NIMC, Engr. Aliyu Aziz, disclosed this in Abuja at the Lunch Time Reform Seminar on “The National Digital Identity Ecosystem Strategic Road Map for the Enrollment of Nigerians and Legal Residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB)” organised by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR). According to him, the National electronics ID card can only be issued to Nigerians registered into the national identity system and legal residents who have attained the age of 16 years and above.

The Nigeria Police Force says it cannot investigate the stealing of pants for spiritual reasons because there is no evidence. The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, said this during a live television programme on NTA, ‘Good Morning Nigeria’, on Friday. Mba was responding to questions on ritual practices and ‘get rich quick’ schemes. He said, “Stealing of underwear for whatsoever reason is a recent phenomenon, before now, we had cases of rituals killings but we can’t investigate things that are not empirically verifiable except when there is convergence of the act like cases of murder or an attempt or related crimes.”

Governorship/State assembly elections: INEC’s final list excludes APC candidates in Zamfara, Rivers; We will field candidates – APC, Yari

Candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara and Rivers states are not on the final list released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the governorship and House of Assembly elections, Daily Trust reports. INEC had on Wednesday night given reasons for excluding Zamfara APC candidates for the March 2 governorship and state assembly elections slated to hold in 29 of the 36 states of the federation. The commission’s National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said the commission had met and approved the final list of candidates for the governorship, state assembly and FCT Area Council elections. “On the whole, there are 1, 066 candidates for the governorship elections, 14, 583 for the state assembly elections and 806 for the FCT Area Council elections broken down into 105 chairmanship candidates and 701 councillorship candidates,” Okoye said.
