“My husband deceived me; he did not tell me that he had three wives before marrying me, ” says a divorce-seeking 42-year-old businesswoman, Funmilayo Otegbola. The woman told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Friday that her husband impregnated her and hurried her into the house. “When I became pregnant for my husband, I moved into his house although we are not legally married. “I discovered that he already had three wives living with him, there was nothing I could do since I was pregnant, I had to stay,” she said while responding to a divorce suit filed by her husband, Rufus Otegbola, for 13 years.

A pilot died on Wednesday during a flight from Dallas to Albuquerque, New Mexico. American Airlines have confirmed. BBC reports that the Boeing 737-800 was two miles from landing when the captain declared a medical emergency, an Albuquerque airport spokesman confirmed. “They landed without incident, taxied to the gate and were met by medical personnel,” he told the Albuquerque Journal.

President Muhammadu Buhari has cancelled a planned medical trip to the UK and has invited doctors to Nigeria instead.  The 74-year-old head of state spent 51 days on medical leave in London earlier this year, amid fears he was too ill to continue to lead one of Africa’s biggest economies. Buhari returned to Nigeria on 10 March, temporarily ending ill-health rumours. However, soon after, the presidency said the leader was planning to travel again in April for further medical tests.

Ayade, according to a source, arrived his office about 7.20 a.m., to find the entire place almost desolate as most workers, including cleaners, were yet to show up at their duty posts, a situation which irked the governor, causing him to instruct his security aides to shut the gate at 7.33 a.m. Those locked out include Mrs Tina Agbor, Secretary to State Government, and other principal political office holders whose offices were within the precinct of the Governor’s Office. Man buries his newly-born daughter alive because he expected male child

Indian police said on Wednesday that they have taken into custody, a man who allegedly buried his newborn daughter alive because he wanted a male child. The baby was reportedly rescued by local villagers after they spotted her feet sticking up from a shallow pit in a farmland within the Jajpur district of the eastern state of Odisha. The father of the child, Ramesh Chandra, was however, arrested by the police for attempted manslaughter.

Ndume’s suspension by the Senate is illegal – Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, has said that the Senate’s suspension of Senator Ali Ndume was illegal. Ndume was suspended for six months, for raising false allegations against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye through order 14 and 15 at plenary last week. The suspension followed report of Senator Samuel Anyanwu-led committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges which recommended for his suspension for one legislative year.

N3bn loot: Court strikes out Yakubu’s N1bn suit against EFCC

The Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, struck out the N1 billion suit that former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, who allegedly stashed over N3 billion at his guest house in Kaduna, filed Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Andrew Yakubu, ex-NNPC GMD: says loot was a gift by ‘unknown persons’. Justice A. R. Mohammed struck out the suit after it was withdrawn by the plaintiff who is already facing six-count money laundering charge the anti-graft agency preferred against him. Yakubu, who was Group Managing Director of the NNPC between 2012 and 2014, had dragged the EFCC to court, demanding public apology and N1 billion as damages over his detention by the agency.

22-year-old Indian man forced girlfriend to drink acid

A 22-year-old Indian man, Ravi Kumar, has been arrested after he reportedly forced his 19-year-old girlfriend to drink acid. Kumar made the woman, identified only as Muskan drink acid over claims he was angry with her for allegedly cheating on him. According to Hindustan Times, the victim has been hospitalized with a burnt throat and face. She received around 20 per cent burns following the attack and is currently undergoing treatment in the emergency ward of AIIMS.

Police arraign man, 24, for beating sister to a pulp over plate of extra food

The police on Thursday arraigned a 24-year-old man, Chima Ezeakolam in an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, charged with beating his sister, Queen Ezeakolam to a pulp over plate of extra food. Ezeokolam, a resident of Agbe Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace. The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the defendant, who entered a not-guilty plea, committed the offences on Jan. 28 at their residence. He said Ezeokolam assaulted his sister, Queen, by beating her to a pulp after she refused to give him an extra plate of food.

The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) has announced the sale of Keystone Bank, one of Nigeria’s commercial banks. AMCON said the bank was sold to Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited (the Sigma Golf – Riverbank consortium). The bank, formerly known as Bank PHB, is the last of three nationalised banks to be sold, the other two being Mainstreet Bank and Enterprise Bank. In a statement signed by Jude Nwauzor, AMCON head of corporate communications, the bad debt bank said it “is pleased to announce Sigma Golf Nigeria Limited and Riverbank Investment Resources Limited (the Sigma Golf – Riverbank consortium) as the new investors in relation to the acquisition of the entire issued and fully paid up ordinary shares of Keystone Bank Limited”.

Senate calls for Customs CG’s resignation

The Senate has called for the resignation of the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Colonel Hameed Ali (rtd), saying he is unfit to hold any public office. The Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, Tuesday, said he will not honour the invitation of the Senate on Wednesday. Ali told State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that his position was informed by the fact that the case is in court.

President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump is to have an office in the White House, her lawyer says.  The 35-year-old will have security clearance and access to classified information, but no official title or salary when she works in the West Wing. She will serve as her father’s “eyes and ears” while providing broad-ranging advice, her attorney told Politico.  Ms Trump, who owns a fashion brand, will join husband Jared Kushner, who is a senior adviser to the president.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, yesterday, gave reasons why he is yet to appoint Commissioners and Special Advisers, saying that he needed to sanitize the ministries and set up a template with which would be commissioners would work.  The governor disclosed that he would send the list of commissioner nominees to the state House of Assembly for confirmation in the next one week, adding that any commissioner who failed to perform according to expectations would be dropped immediately. 

No visa issuance to Nigerians in Lagos, says Switzerland

The Consul-General of Switzerland in Lagos, Mr Yves Nicolet, on Wednesday notified Nigerians that his consulate was not in the business of issuing visas to applicants. Nicole said in Lagos that it was advisable for Nigerians and non-Nigerians seeking visas to Switzerland to always visit the Embassy of Switzerland in Abuja.  “We want Nigerians and non-Nigerians to know that the Consulate- General of Switzerland in Lagos is not in the business of issuing visas to persons wanting to travel to Switzerland. “This Consulate-General does not have a visa section, and so, we do not and cannot issue visas. And we do not intend to open a visa section in the near future.

Housewife beats another to pulp, bites her breast

A 28-year-old housewife, Olotu Chizoba, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant by beating her to a pulp, was on Wednesday arraigned before Magistrate O. Sule-Amzat sitting at Ogudu, Lagos. Olotu, who resides at Bello Street, Ikosi Road in Ketu area of Lagos, is being tried for assault occasioning harm. The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 15 on Ikosi Road. He said the complainant, Mrs Samuel Nwali came to Ketu Police Station in company of her husband to report the incident.
