Senegal’s health ministry has confirmed a first case of Ebola, making it the fifth West African country to be affected by the outbreak. Health Minister Awa Marie Coll Seck told reporters on Friday that a young man from Guinea was confirmed to have contracted the virus. The man was immediately placed in quarantine, she added. The current outbreak, which began in Guinea, has killed more than 1,500 people across the region. At least 3,000 people have been infected with the virus. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned it could get much worse and infect more than 20,000 people. Senegal had previously closed its border with Guinea in an attempt to halt the spread of Ebola, but its frontiers are porous.

Police, border and council officials removed just one homeless Eastern European out of 37 detained in central London this morning despite new 'stricter' rules on problem begging. Out of 37 homeless people screened at Marble Arch just two were put on flights home - with one going voluntarily due to ill health - on £200 flights paid for by the tax payer. The operation was aimed at combating the 'offensive consequences' caused by beggars harassing shopkeepers, local residents and tourists in six boroughs in the capital. It comes a day after it was revealed the number of foreigners moving to Britain had soared dramatically, leaving the Government’s flagship pledge to slash immigration in tatters.

Police have launched a 'major investigation' to find five-year-old Ashya King, who has a brain tumour and was taken without consent from hospital by his parents.  Ashya, who was being treated at Southampton General Hospital, is described as needing round the clock care and there are 'serious concerns' for his life if he is not found today. Officers said his parents - Brett King and Naghemeh King - boarded a cross-Channel ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg at 4pm yesterday with Ashya's six siblings.  CCTV shows Ashya's father leaving the hospital with him around 2pm yesterday.

Gunmen, in the early hours of yesterday, stormed an apartment in a block of flats in Unity Estate, Akowonjo area of Egbeda, killing a man, his wife, his child and their maid. Details of the tragic incident that sent cold shivers down the spines of residents of the area were sketchy at press time. According to Vanguard,  the gunmen suspected to be hired assassins, stormed the building at about 2am and fired shots, apparently to wade off intruders. A resident of another flat in the block, who pleaded anonymity, said there was an argument between the gunmen and owner of the flat whose identity could not be immediately ascertained. According to the neighbour, “the gunmen scaled through the fence of the building and held the gateman hostage.

This is not the best of time for African Queen Crooner, Tuface Idibia as he lost his father Michael Agbo Idibia on Saturday 23 rd August to Prostrated Cancer. Mr Idibia died in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja after battling with cancer. The deceased had been battling prostate cancer for over a year. He was an alumnus of Kansas State University, USA; and retired from the Ministry of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State.

A 37-year-old graduate of Accountancy, University of Lagos, who sold recharge cards under the Meckwen Bridge, Victoria Island,Lagos State, has been chased to his death by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. Babalola Felix fell into the Lagoon as he was running to avoid being arrested by the NSCDC officials. The incident happened last week Monday afternoon. Our correspondent gathered that the NSCDC men had invaded the area to rid it of hoodlums. Confusion had resulted as people in the area fled in different directions on sighting the security operatives.

The police have arraigned a 29-year-old construction worker, Prince Isioma, before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl. The police said the incident happened on the Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos State. It was learnt that the victim, who lived in the same compound with the defendant, was staying with her sister. Zimbabwe riot police detained a dozen opposition protesters and beat up others at a demonstration on Wednesday over high unemployment, an AFP correspondent witnessed. Police armed with batons descended on around 100 members of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change in the capital Harare, days after its party leader advocated a wave of nationwide demonstrations. Protesters were beaten and bundled into marked police vans as they headed toward parliament to present a jobs petition to the speaker of national assembly. Police spokespeople were not available to confirm the number detained or if charges had been laid.

These images show the seconds before a nine-year girl accidentally shot her gun instructor dead on Monday. Recorded at the Bullets and Burgers shooting range in White Hills, Arizona, the edited 22-second clip plays up to the point where the girl loses control of an Uzi, striking 39-year-old Charles Vacca. The shocking recording taken by the girl's parents and released by police shows Vacca standing closely next to the girl when the gun recoiled as she fired on full automatic mode. As the clip unfolds, Vacca is seen to instruct the girl to hold the weapon with two hands at all times and to take a perpendicular stance to the target.

Despite the fact that Nigerians do pay Disco/PHCN for poor electricity service, its a sad situation, that money generate from customers are not utilize for maintenance as it was reported that a high-tension cable fell on a house and electrocuted a woman and her younger sister on Tuesday morning at Olumokun Street, in the Amukoko area of Lagos. It was   learnt that the cable fell on the residence at about 3am, and subsequently sparked fire, which made many of its occupants to flee for safety. Indications emerged on Tuesday that the Founder and President of the Gospel Apostolic Church, Pa Samuel Sadela, has passed on.  He was aged 114. Although a senior pastor in the church reportedly claimed that the man described as one of Nigeria’s oldest pastors could still be receiving treatment in a hospital, he was said to have died in the premises of the church in Lagos. The Federal Government on Tuesday ordered that all primary and secondary schools in the country should resume on October 13, 2014 because of the outbreak of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country. The Minister of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau, announced the new resumption date after a marathon meeting with all the 36 state Commissioners of Education in Abuja on Tuesday evening. Shekarau, who briefed journalists after the meeting, said all private schools in the country should also comply with the directive.
