Rare Love; Man Marries long time girlfriend who suffered burns to 65 per cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right
Australia's
toughest survivor, Turia Pitt and her lovely beau, Michael Hoskin get their
happily ever after. The long-time couple are getting married with Michael admitting, “When Turia was in intensive care four years
ago, I bought a diamond ring."
The couple have known each other since school and been together for over five years.
They have been an incredible unit of support
for each other. The happy pair loved riding bikes, surfing, running, anything
outdoorsy. They adored each others’ company and were planning to get married,
have children, travel the world. But in 2011 Turia suffered burns to 65 per
cent of her body, lost her fingers and thumb on her right hand and spent five
months in hospital after she was trapped by a grassfire in a 100 kilometre
ultra-marathon in the Kimberley.
But Michael gave up his job as a cop to care for the love of his life. Turia describes Michael and her mum, Celestine, 45, as her rocks. “You are looking beautiful today Turia. What are you going to achieve today?’’ She recalled Michael saying to her, when she was in the hospital. The love between these two is unbreakable. Turia often cites Michael’s love as the key to her survival, admitting he makes her feel like "the luckiest girl in the world."
The pair have looked adversity right in the face and conquered it. Turning their sadness into joy and hope.
