Human Rights Lawyer Beats Orderly Over Refusal To Do House Chores

A lawyer and human rights activist, Prof. Zainab Duke Abiola has allegedly assaulted her orderly in Abuja. The alleged assault, Channels Television gathered, following the refusal of her orderly – Inspector Teju Moses –  to do house chores. Prof Abiola was arrested alongside her housemaid, Rebecca Enechido after a video clip went viral on Wednesday. In the video, the officer is seen in uniform bleeding, seated on the floor and asking to be taken to the hospital for medical attention. FG plans ban on ‘ponmo’ to revive leather industry

The Federal Government has said it was proposing a legislation to ban the consumption of animal skin, locally known as ponmo, in the country to revive tanneries. Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology, NILEST, Zaria, Muhammad Yakubu said this in Abuja on Sunday. NILEST was set up to promote leather production as provided in the Agricultural Research Institute Act of 1975. The institute conducts research the production and products of leather and the utilisation of local tanning materials in the country.

Court remands Chinese for killing ex-lover, Reps fume

A Kano State Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded a 47-year-old Chinese, Geng Quanrong, who was accused of killing his ex-lover, Ummukulthum Buhari, aka Ummita, in the state. Quanrong was arraigned by the Kano State Police Command on Wednesday for allegedly killing Buhari, a 23-year-old graduate of Agriculture Science from the Kampala University, Uganda. A senior state counsel, K. A. Hashim, who appeared for the prosecution, sought the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre pending the issuance of legal advice from the Office of the Attorney-General of Kano State. The chief magistrate, Hanif Yusuf, granted the request and adjourned the case till October 13. Recall that the Chinese followed late Buhari to her family house in Kano, it took him over one hour before he forced himself into her room and stabbed her to death on Saturday. Fraudsters hack bank, transfer N523m to 225 accounts

Suspected fraudsters, during a three-day cyber-attack, have hacked a customer’s account domiciled in an old generation bank and fraudulently transferred N523,337,100 from the account to 18 different accounts in the same bank.  The spokesperson for the Police Special Fraud Unit in Ikoyi, Lagos State, SP Eyitayo Johnson, in a statement Wednesday, said the suspects subsequently transferred the money from the 18 accounts into 225 other accounts domiciled in 22 other banks and financial institutions. He said the coordinated cyber-attack was carried out on Saturday, April 23, till the early hours of Monday April 25, 2022, before business opened, adding that two suspects had been arrested in connection to the crime.
