A 14-year-old girl has died and her mother has been left severely injured after they were thrown off a moving bus following a sexual assault in India. Arshdeep Kaur and her mother Shinder, were travelling from their home in Punjab, northern India, to visit relatives when a group of about half a dozen men began harassing them. The men grabbed Arshdeep and made several attempts to 'molest' her and her mother, but instead of defending them, the bus staff joined in the sexual assault.

A 15-year-old Muslim girl has been banned from class twice for wearing a long black skirt seen as too openly religious for secular  France , in a casethat has sparked an outcry. The girl was stopped from going to class earlier this month by the headteacher who reportedly felt the long skirt “conspicuously” showed religious affiliation, which is banned in schools by France’s strict secularity laws.

The Lagos State government yesterday said at least 24 religious outfits were shut in year 2014 for contravening the State guidelines on noise pollution. There was confusion at a filling station along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road after a female police inspector attached to the Airport Police Command and identified as Mrs. Florence Anih, was slapped by a Nigerian Air Force lance corporal. The lance corporal, who was in a truck marked, Rotary Group 205, was identified as Friday Zadiel. Our correspondent learnt that the incident happened last Wednesday. Zadiel was said to be with another officer, who did not wear a name tag.

A student of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation on Wednesday died on her way to the hospital after collapsing at the institute’s hostel in Lagos. An official of the institute told the News Agency of Nigeria that the woman, simply identified as Tina, died while being taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The official, who pleaded anonymity, said Tina, until her death, was a staff of Abuja office of the institute.

A 31-year-old man, Samson Ndubuisi, who allegedly had canal knowledge of an 11-year-old boy, was on Wednesday hauled up before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos. Ndubuisi, a resident of No. 3/4, Umuaka Close, Ilufe Junction, Alaba Market, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and sexual assault by penetration. The Prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 12 at his apartment.

The proprietor of Daar Communications PLC, Raymond Dokpesi, has stated that Monday’s decision by the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to bar one of its subsidiaries, Africa Independent Television, from covering his activities was an attempt by the former military Head of State to bring back the era of Decree 4, according to an interview he granted Premium Times. Mr. Dokpesi said Mr. Buhari lacks the power to stop the AIT from covering his activities, as doing so would amount to breaking the law.

An Abeokuta Customary Court sitting in Ake on Wednesday dissolved a three-year-old marriage between Mr Femi Olayiwole and wife, Kemi, due to the absence of vagina, deceit and frequent fighting. Olayiwole told the court that his wife deceived him to marry her knowing that she could not bear him a child.  He accused his wife, who had failed to appear in court after being summoned several times, of living a false life, frequent fighting and threatening his life.

Indonesian authorities on Tuesday executed four Nigerians and four others for drug-related offences despite pleas by the United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and the Federal Government. The Nigerians were identified as Martin Anderson, 50; Silvester Nwolise, 47; Okwudili Oyatanze, 41, and Jamiu Abashin, 50.

President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, non-returning federal lawmakers, ministers and   presidential aides will collect N3.24bn as severance allowances, investigation has shown. The severance allowances   are contained in the Remuneration Package   put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission. According to the package, Jonathan, who will hand over to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 29, is entitled to 300 per cent of his annual basic salary. The President’s annual basic salary is put at N3, 514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10, 544,115 after May 29.
