Alaibe withdraws from APC Bayelsa guber primary

Former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission NDCC, Timi Alaibe has withdrawn from the primary of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State. Alaibe in a statement issued in the early hours of Wednesday said the decision to withdraw from the contest was in the interest of the party especially as it face the task of the common challenge of unseating the PDP in the state come December 5.

As the nation awaits President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial list, the President on Tuesday said he would head the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Buhari dropped the hint in one of the interviews he granted one of the foreign media in his hotel shortly before departing New York. The President was in New York to participate in the 70th United Nations General Assembly. “I will serve as the Minister of Petroleum Resources myself,” Buhari told his interviewer. The nation’s petroleum sector has been said to be enmeshed in corruption with millions of dollars said to be missing in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

61-year-old guard rapes two sisters, gives them N200

The police in Lagos are on the trail of a security man, identified only as John, who allegedly raped two sisters for several weeks in the Anthony area of Lagos. 61-year-old John reportedly gave the sisters, Comfort and Precious (not real names), the sum of N200 to appease them each time he raped the girls. He was also said to have warned the 11-year-old and 10-year-old victims that he would kill them if they revealed the secrets to their mother.

Emmanuel Adebayor Terminates Contract Agreement with Tottenham Hotspur

Togolese Emmanuel Adebayor confirms via his Instagram page that he has reached an agreement to terminate his contract with his football club Tottenham Hotspur.  The striker joined the club in 2011 and scored 42 times for Spurs since joining. Adebayor's decision to quit the football scene for now might be in connection with his family problems which he revealed on his facebook page. 

Woman borrows twins to defraud her ex-commissioner Boyfriend

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman for taking a set of four-month-old twins from their parents to defraud a retired Commissioner of Police. The incident happened on Sunday in the Agege area of Lagos State. It was learnt that the twins belonged to Mrs. Ruth Uche, who had been delivered of three sets of twins and had been abandoned by her husband, Emeka, before the Lagos State Government came to her rescue recently. 83-year-old man slumps, dies as policemen prevent community meeting in Rivers

An 83-year-old man, Mr. Maxwell Acho Chukwu, allegedly described as the oldest man in the Mgbuoshimiri Community in Obia/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Saturday, reportedly slumped and died when some policemen stormed the venue of a community meeting and started shooting sporadically. The people of the said community have called for the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the alleged killing of Chukwu.

Police Inspector to die by hanging for killing ‘pure water’ seller in Port Harcourt

A police inspector, simply identified as Samuel Timothy has been sentenced to death by hanging for murder. Justice Adolphus Enebeli of Rivers State High Court passed the judgment on Monday. The Inspector shot dead one Onyekachi Nwasouba, a graduate of Industrial chemistry on November 10 , 2010 at No 34 Old Aba road, Port Harcourt at about 5 am.

LAWMA official arrested for stealing cables

The police in Lagos have arrested an official of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Ibrahim Alli, for allegedly vandalising and stealing the cables that supplied power to streetlights in the Opebi, Ikeja area of the state. The 29-year-old Alli, said to be a member of a two-man syndicate, was arrested on Friday, September 25, in the area.

The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has confirmed the killing of the immediate Caretaker Chairman of Illela Local Government Area of the state, Alhaji Bello Gidan-Hamma, his mother, stepmother and two wives in the stampede in Mina, Saudi Arabia. The agency also confirmed that the Chief Imam of the Sultan Abubakar III Jumaa’at Mosque, Sokoto, Sheikh Liman Dan-Ata, was among those killed in the stampede. First time in history; American students going for holiday to celebrate Eid il Kabir

New York City public schools were scheduled to close Thursday for their first time recognizing the Muslim holiday Eid il Kabir celebration. The district, which serves about 1.1 million students, was due to become the largest school system in the United States to shut down for the observance.  Local Muslims welcomed the move as a symbol of the community's acceptance and shift toward inclusion,   Agence France Presse reported .

Lacasera defies court’s order, fails to reabsorb sacked 700 workers – NUFBTE

Seven days after the National Industrial Court’s ruling, the management of Lacasera Company Plc has yet to comply with the order to recall the sacked 700 workers. Mr Mike Olanrewaju, the Head of Education Department, National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees, (NUFBTE), confirmed to newsmen that the management had yet to recall the sacked workers as directed by the court. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the management of Lacasera had on Sept. 14 dismissed 700 workers based on what it described as invasion of its premises by hoodlums.

The Federal Government, yesterday, docked the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja, on a 13-count criminal charge that bordered on corruption, false declaration of assets, and illegal operation of a foreign bank account while in office as a public servant. Saraki, who was docked before the tribunal at  11:24am, yesterday, pleaded not guilty to the charge marked ABT/01/15, which the Federal Ministry of Justice preferred against him following a recommendation by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB.

Guo Yuanyuan was having bridal pictures taken at a seaside resort in the northeast Chinese city of Dalian when the man suffered a heart attack while swimming. He was dragged to shore but his pulse had stopped.

A Pakistani pilgrim gave birth to a baby boy in Mina

A Pakistani pilgrim gave birth to a baby boy in Mina on Tuesday, the first day of the annual pilgrimage of Haj. Dr. Muhammad Malaibari, director of Mina Al-Wadi Hospital, said that the delivery was normal and the mother and infant are in good health.  This is the first birth at the holy sites after pilgrims moved to the tent city. The baby was named Muhammad Ali. 

2015 Hajj: 3million Muslims across the world gather at Arafat

No fewer than three million Muslims from across the world gathered today, Wednesday at the plain of Arafat to observe one of the obligatory aspect of this year’s Hajj. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has separated from his wife, according to The Sun.   The newspaper claims that Wenger and partner Annie had a 'separation of bodies' judgment issued by a judge in Paris, meaning that they are free to see other people. Mum gives birth to baby on pavement outside home in New York

Despite arriving more than two weeks late, this baby boy wasted no time when it came to being born.   Rachel Grindstaff was headed to hospital when she forced to give birth on the pavement outside her home. The expectant mum went into labour at around 2.30am on Sunday. But she wasn't able to walk the 75 yards to her car before son Benjamin came "roaring" into the world right there and then.

Pope Francis arrives in USA for historic visit

Pope Francis arrived yesterday Tuesday on the first visit of his life to the United States, bringing his “church of the poor” to the world’s wealthiest superpower and a country polarized over issues closest to his heart: immigration, social injustice and economic inequality. According a rare honor to the pontiff, President Barack Obama and his wife and daughters welcomed Francis on the red-carpeted tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, just outside the nation’s capital, after the pope’s chartered plane touched down from Cuba. Presidents usually make important visitors come to them at the White House.
