The propriety of the 13-count criminal charge against the Senate President, Dr. Olubukola Saraki has created a sharp division among Appeal Court Justices. Whereas Justice Moore Adumein dismissed the appeal that was lodged by Saraki as lacking in merit, another member of the panel, Justice ‎ J.E. Ekanem upheld the appeal, declaring the charge before the CCT as incompetent. Justice Ekanem specifically quashed the charge and discharged Saraki on the basis that the Deputy Director at the Ministry of Justice, M. M. S. Hassan who signed the charge, did not specify who authorised him to initiate the ‎criminal proceeding.

Three days after Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC slammed a N1.4 trillion penalty on MTN Nigeria for failure to disconnect customers with unregistered SIM cards, Parent company MTN group has cried out that the fine was too extreme, even as it continues to engage the regulator on how to resolve the issue. MTN Group noted with dismay that Nigerian Communications Commission refused to listen to its plea to reconsider its stand on the penalty slammed on its Nigerian arm last week.

Maria Ekanem, a  20-year-old school drop out from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, said yesterday in Calabar that poverty and lack of where to stay after she gave birth made her sell her two weeks old baby girl for N20,000. Maria, who was arrested by the police along five other accomplices, said her boyfriend who got her pregnant, asked her to abort the baby but said a doctor helped her  with free antenatal care and food until she gave birth.

The intrigues that shadowed the confirmation hearing of the 36 ministerial nominees reached an anti-climax yesterday when all but one senator in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus walked out to protest the confirmation of former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, as minister. In their absence, Amaechi was unanimously confirmed after the Senate had summarily dismissed the report of its Committee on Ethics and Privileges that had recommended that the nomination be put on hold.

Tony Robinson Jr., the student who recorded the arrest in a South Carolina classroom in which a school officer flipped over a desk and dragged a teenage girl across the floor, said that he and the other students were terrified as they watched what happened.  Robinson said that an administrator had been called into the room after a girl was on her computer and took out her phone and r efused to give her phone up to a teacher who asked for it.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has confirmed that his government   is owing 8 Months salaries to their teachers and majority of them were the over 1,800 Kano teachers, employed before the General election by for Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso. Kwankwaso employed and posted them to public schools across the 44 local government areas of the state in February and they worked for his party during the election.

The emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II, has stripped the eldest son of the late Emir Ado Bayero, Lamido Bayero, of his   traditional title of Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale. A few months after ascending the throne, the new emir wrote to Mr. Bayero, seeking him to return to his duty as Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale.

A 35-year-old trader, Maharazu Ali, on Wednesday appeared before a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Katsina for allegedly impregnating a minor. The accused, who resides at Kwamgaya Village in the Mani Local Government of Katsina State, appeared before the court on a court charge of rape. The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that one Mr M.S. Mahuta sent a petition to the Katsina State Commissioner of Police that the accused had impregnated his 13-year-old daughter. The FIR explained that the petition was forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Department on Sept. 17, pleading for investigation into the matter.

  A Magistrate Court sitting in Iragbiji, Osun state has ordered that four men be remanded in Ilesa Prison custody for allegedly killing a four year old boy, Bakare Teslim. The accused persons including a 60 year old Ganiyu Abidoye, Taju Ganiyu, aged 25, Aremu Moshood, 48 and Agboola Abdulwasiu, aged 31 were docked on Monday, 26th October, 2015 by the Osun state Police. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has directed Multichoice, the parent company of DSTV, not to air a programme titled: “I am Jazz” a mini-series about a transgender child. This is contained in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs of the NBC, Mr Awwalu Salihu, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.

Three men, Qaudri Yekini, 23, Moses Osagie, 23, and Ebuka Anosike, 20, were, yesterday, remanded in prison custody by Magistrate T. Abolarinwa of an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl (names withheld). The defendants, who reside at Yaya Crescent, Ajegunle, Olodi Apapa area of Lagos, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful carnal knowledge and sexual assault proferred against them by the police.

The father of the Ooni Elect, Oluropo Ogunwusi, has stated his excitement at the naming of his son, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, as the new Ooni of Ife, just as members of the Giesi ruling house rolled out the drums in the town on Monday. Nigerians have been thrown into confusion over whose authority supersedes on the issue of electricity tariff increase. No sooner than President Muhammadu Buhari, assured Nigerians that there will be no hike until supply improved significantly, than the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, last week declared a new tariff regime effective from November 1. Stakeholders note that the new tariff is more than 40 percent higher than the current levels and will be the second time in nine months, even as there has been no significant improvement in the electricity supply situation in the country.

Abia State police command has arrested a suspected ritualist, Marshal Nwankwo, of Dikeukwu autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, for allegedly killing a hunchback, Mr. Ukata Iheme, for money making purposes. The suspect, who was said to have committed the crime with another suspect, Emeka Okoye, now at large, allegedly killed and buried the victim. Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Onyeke Udeviotu, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was arrested, following information that he was alleged to have been sighted last with the victim before his disappearance. According to the Police, the suspect on interrogation made useful statements that led to the discovery of the grave where the body of the victim was buried.

A Lagos State magistrates’ court sitting in Wharf-Apapa has remanded the 22-year-old housemaid of a politician, Hajia Bilikisu Gambari, for allegedly stealing her property valued at $30,000 (N7m). Gambari is a former Peoples Democratic Party senatorial aspirant for Kwara-Central senatorial district.

The Government of Osun State has approved the appointment of Prince Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni of Ife. He's from the Giesi ruling family house and his choice follows the completion of due process by the Kingmakers.  The new Ooni is 40 years old and a Chartered Accountant who holds an Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from 'the Polytechnic, Ibadan.  May his reign be long and blessed.

There was panic at Olokodana Junction on the Old Apapa Road, in the Oyingbo area of Lagos State after residents and passersby found a severed head by the roadside. Our corsrespondent gathered that the head was dropped at the junction at about 8pm on Tuesday by unidentified persons. It was learnt that residents and pedestrians gathered round the head and tried in vain to find out the identity of the deceased. (Viewers discretion advised) 

The General Overseer of Household of God Church, Rev. Chris Okotie, on Sunday said that were it not Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s “false” prophecy to former President Goodluck Jonathan, the latter (Jonathan) would not have contested the 2015 presidential election. He said that the former President had initially made up his mind not to vie for the election, but stated that Oritsejafor “deceived” him with tales of victory as prophesied unto him by God.

The Osinkola Ruling House in Ile-Ife has warned Osun State Government against announcing the new Ooni because of the suit instituted by the family against the Ife Chieftaincy Declaration. The Chairman, Publicity Committee of Osinkola Ruling House, Olakunle Aderemi, who said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday, stated that the case was still in court. A graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Babatunde Fatai, who is about to begin the mandatory national youth service programme, said he posed as a genuine lover to defraud foreign women and men whom he met on dating sites. Fatai, who has been arrested by the Oyo State Police command for various Internet crimes, including hacking into bank accounts of many people in and outside Nigeria, had once been arrested for robbery and arraigned in court but granted bail.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has accused the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, of diverting   N45bn loan taken by his administration. Amaechi made this statement, on Sunday, at a special thanksgiving service organised to mark the October 25 ruling of the Supreme Court, which brought him into power as governor in 2007.

An Islamic cleric, Ali Mohammed, has confessed to killing a 32-year-old graduate of Business Administration, Olufunbi Lawal. The suspect, who owed Olufunbi N32,000, said he killed the deceased in order to avoid paying the debt. Late Funbi Lawal
