Nigerian Lady jailed in UK for stealing £19,650 from vulnerable patients
A 41-year-old Nigerian woman, Abiola Akinremi, who works as an administrator in a care facility in the United Kingdom has been jailed for making unauthorised withdrawals from the savings of vulnerable patients in the facility.
British newspaper, Evening Standard, reports that Akinremi was jailed for seven months for stealing the sum of £19,650 from the residents of Bostall House in Abbeywood southeast London.
The mother of three started stealing from patients when she needed money for childcare, and continued to fund her lifestyle with the stolen funds. Akinremi, who pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud by abuse of position, had denied stealing money from the residents until trial began.
She however admitted stealing £19,650 from three residents of the facility within eight months.
Judge Angela Rafferty KC told Mrs Akinremi that it was “repeated and planned course of conduct, and a very serious breach of trust of vulnerable people.”
