Lagos birthday party shooting accidental, say Lagos Police spokesperson

The Lagos State Police Command has said the shooting by an officer attached to the command that led to the death of two businessmen during a birthday party in the Iyana Ipaja area of the state was accidental. The PUNCH had reported that a policeman serving at the state command headquarters in Ikeja went into hiding after allegedly shooting two businessmen to death. It was learnt that the cop, alongside the victims, and other guests, gathered at a bar to celebrate a friend’s birthday. But reacting to the incident in a statement on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, who identified the cop involved as Inspector Mohammed Hussini, said the suspect was an off-duty police officer.

The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Benjamin Hundeyin has said it is surprising how many Nigerians are willing and ready to join the Police. Hundeyin also revealed that many people have called and sent messages, asking when the Nigeria Police form would be out. The statement was contained in a post via his verified Twitter handle. He said he had thought everyone hated the Nigeria Police. He wrote, “Shey una dey whine me ni? “Everyday, I receive calls and messages asking, ‘When will the Nigeria Police form be out? I’m interested in joining the police.’ And here I was thinking everyone hated @PoliceNG Shout out to all our supporters'.
