Boy, 13, suspended from school for drawing stick man with gun
A 13 year-old boy was suspended from his school
for drawing pictures of stick figures bearing guns and knives. Alex Herring’s
father James hit out at Roseboro Salemburg Middle School after his
seventh-grader boy, was axed from school for two days over the drawings.
One of the photos shows a teenage mutana ninja
turtle bearing a knife, while another shows a stickman pointing a rifle. A
third shows a magician, while a fourth shows a man wearing a hat and carrying a
dagger. James, from Roseboro, N.C. says the drawings were inspired by he and
his son’s hunting trips, and added that both are well-versed in firearm safety.

James is furious that his son was suspended. |
He told WRAL: ‘I see a guy in a race car
souped-up. ‘I see a tower that he built. ‘I see him holding his gun, he’s a
deer hunter. ‘I see him with a magician and I see him as a Ninja Turtle.
‘(He’s) just expressing himself, nothing violent. ‘When I see that, I see a
normal 13-year-old boy.
‘I drew pictures like this, any other person of
his age drew drawings like this. ‘It’s nothing to get expelled from school
for.’ James added that the drawings were done before the Parkland school
massacre on February 14, and says his son is not violent, nor does he have any
emotional issues.
Alex was suspended last Tuesday, and returned to school on
Thursday, but has since been taken back out by his father after being bullied.
James told Metro US: ‘They are trying to teach the kids that all guns are bad.
‘Around here where we are from we have alot of hunters. ‘Half of them have guns
in the back windows of their trucks. But does that make them bad? ‘What about
the police? And our military? Are they bad too? ‘The picture that my son drew
was not bad. He was just expressing himself like any normal 13 year old.’
