Headless body found floating in a river in UK
A major police probe was launched this
morning after a man's headless body was found floating just yards from a
popular British pier. Lifeboat crews and coastguards are
desperately searching for the head of the person after the grim discovery was
made near the pier in Deal, Kent.
A large area has been sealed off and
families who were enjoying the Bank Holiday break were ushered away from the
scene.
Police said that the man's death was not
believed to have been suspicious, fuelling suggestions that the body could have
been in the water for some time.
A post-mortem examination is to be
carried out on the man's body to establish the exact cause of his death and an
inquest will be opened and adjourned later in the week.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: 'Officers
were called at 10.12am following the discovery of a man's body in the water
near Deal Pier.
'Officers remain at the scene and are
being assisted by the coastguard, lifeboat crews and South East Coast Ambulance
Service.
'The death is not currently being
treated as suspicious and inquiries to confirm the man's identity are ongoing.'
