Osogbo health officials abandon corpse by roadside
Residents of Aderin Junction, Powerline area of Osogbo, have expressed concerns over the likelihood of epidemic outbreak following the abandonment of a decomposing body by the roadside.
Our correspondent, who visited the area on Wednesday, observed that the corpse had started decomposing and passersby covered their noses due to the stench oozing from it.
Some of the residents told our correspondent that the corpse was that of a mentally ill man who used to roam the area.

One of the residents, Mr. Kazeem Kasali, a cement dealer
said, “The corpse is that of a mad man who roamed this street. There were two
of them and there is no day you will come around here without noticing
them.
“However, on Tuesday morning when we got here, we saw
him lying there. It was unusual, so we reported it to the police.”
When our correspondent visited the Oke-Odo Police Station,
one Mr. Salihu Isah said evacuation of corpses was not the duty of the police.
He said, “If it was an accident, we could come in to see
how the corpse will be removed; but in this case, the local government is
expected to evacuate it.”
However, workers at the Olorunda North Local Council
Development Area, which supervises Ota-Efun and its environs, informed our
correspondent that efforts were being made to evacuate the corpse.
As at the time of filing this report, they have yet to do
so.
