Yobo joins Wike’s cabinet

Just few days after he was honoured with a chieftancy title by his kinsmen, Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, has appointed Joseph Yobo, former Super Eagles captain, as his senior special assistant on sports development.

Wike also appointed Chibuzor Aholu as the senior special assistant on financial matters.

According to Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor’s special assistant on electronic media, the appointments take immediate effect.

Yobo campaigned vigorously for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the buildup to the 2015 general election.

The footballer, who hails from the Khana area of Rivers, was recently conferred with a traditional title – Mene Aborlo 1.

Yobo had his testimonial match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt on May 27, and the state government played a key role in the success of the event.

The former Everton defender goes into history as the first male Nigerian footballer to reach 100 international caps.
