Mum gives birth to baby on pavement outside home in New York
Despite arriving more than two weeks late, this baby boy wasted no time when it came to being born. Rachel Grindstaff was headed to hospital when she forced to give birth on the pavement outside her home.
The expectant mum went into labour at
around 2.30am on Sunday.
But she wasn't able to walk the 75 yards
to her car before son Benjamin came "roaring" into the world right
there and then.
Rachel added: “The only thing that went
through my head is I didn’t want him to fall, so I just kind of laid down
instinctively."
Baby Benjamin Paul was born on the
pavement, still inside his amniotic sac with the umbilical cord wrapped around
his neck.
Luckily, friend and trained doula Mary
McDonald was on hand to help deliver the baby.
“It was just a couple pushes,” she told
CBS. “She laid down, and I started to see the head as she was pushing.”
Mum and baby were rushed to hospital
where they are both doing well, despite their ordeal.
