Travel nightmare as thousands of London rail passengers are stuck on sweltering trains for Five Hours after power failure

Thousands of commuters were stranded on trains for up to five hours in sweltering conditions today after a power failure sparked rush hour chaos in London.

Passengers even resorted to fighting each other to get on trains after an electrical supply problem between Clapham Junction (centre) and Wandsworth led to a 'total meltdown'. More than 900 passengers from the 7.02 Southern Trains service (left and right) between East Grinstead and Victoria were evacuated after a four-hour delay and the disruption is expected to continue until this evening.

British Transport Police officers boarded some of the trains (inset, left) at around 10am to pass water bottles to passengers stuck in sweltering temperatures with no air conditioning. The problem struck between Wandsworth Common and Clapham Junction in the middle of the morning rush hour and hundreds took to social media to vent their frustration.
