NANNY FILMED BEATING AND KICKING 18-MONTH-OLD BABY FOR 'SPITTING OUT FOOD' IN UGANDA PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD ABUSE
A nanny who was secretly filmed subjecting a 18-month-old
child to a horrific beating has
pleaded guilty to child abuse.
A video of Jolly
Tumuhirwe, 22, beating, kicking and standing on the toddler after she was sick
caused outrage when it was posted online in Uganda.
She was charged in
court with the torture of the child, where she pleaded with the girl's parents
to forgive her.
Eric Kamanzi, had installed the camera at
his home, in Nakawa, after growing concerned for his daughter's safety.
After seeing the full
video, i chose not to use it as it is so distressing.
The 22-year-old nanny was filmed in trying to feed the child - then
severely hitting her twice
after she coughs out food.
Later, the pair are
watching TV on the sofa when the young victim vomits over the floor and furniture
- and is immediately thrown to the ground.
While the baby
screams, Tumuhiirwe appears to hit her with a household item.
She then stands on
the child's back before kicking her so hard she flies across the floor.
The tot groans in
pain as she is viciously stamped on four times. Her cries are then
ear-splitting as she is dragged by one arm, off to another room.
“We took her to the
hospital for medical checkup and she is ok," her mother told the Daily
Monitor at the time of the attack.
Mr Kamanzi reported
the incident to police on November 13.
Tumuhirwe, who was not represented by a lawyer in court, could
now face 15 years in prison or a fine of about £260 - or both.
According to the BBC,
the baby's father broke down in court,at the capital Kampala, when the maid
said she was sorry.
Sentencing is
expected on Wednesday, December 10.
