RUGBY COACH FLED DRINK-DRIVE CRASH BECAUSE HE WAS DRESSED UP AS RIHANNA
A rugby coach claimed he fled after crashing a car while drunk - because he wasdressed as RIHANNA. Glenn Stroud, 43, had been at a 'Stars in Their Eyes' fancy dress party and was wearing a red wig, purple dress and make-up when his Ford Ka ploughed into an oncoming Corsa.
His lawyer told a
court he was too embarrassed to stop because of his drag outfit and drove off.
But the other driver
followed Stroud from the scene and alerted police.
He later admitted
driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop after a road
accident.
Stroud, of Caerleon
near Newport, was yesterday banned from the roads for twenty months.
Judge Richard
Williams said: "This was a calculated attempt to avoid detection.
"You failed to
stop after a road traffic accident, the offence of failing to stop is a serious
aggravating factor."
Newport magistrates
court heard how the crash happened after Stroud left a fancy dress party based
on the nineties hit music TV show at a rugby club at St Julians rugby club in
the Welsh city.
He got behind the
wheel of his car with 86 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
The limit is 35 milligrams.
The court heard how
Stroud was seen "swerving all over the road".
He crashed into an
oncoming Vauxhall Corsa in the early hours of the morning of November 9.
No one was injured
but damage was caused to both cars and Stroud tried to drive off from the
scene.
