MAN ARRAIGNED FOR POISONING GUEST AT PARTY IN ILE-IFE, OSUN STATE

A man, Taofeek Adeyemo, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ile-Ife, Osun State, for allegedly poisoning a guest at a public function.
The prosecutor, Christian Olajide, a police sergeant, said the accused allegedly committed the offence between September 24 and October 1 at Ita-Osa Area, Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Olajide told the court that the accused unlawfully killed Lukman Oyemola by putting herbicide in the local gin, Pakurumo, which the deceased drank.

The prosecutor said when the accused was interrogated, he reportedly said he did not intentionally kill the deceased.

Adeyemo said:  “I added the poison to a colleague‘s drink. This colleague cheats me and receives preferential treatment from our boss.
“I thought I would get him at the naming ceremony we attended, that was the reason why I put the chemical inside the Pakurumo container on his table with the hope that he would take it.

“I bought the chemical over a year ago and had been looking for means to poison my colleague but it was a pity that another person took the poison, when I went to dance.”

Magistrate Risikat Olayemi did not take the accused’s plea, saying the court lacks jurisdiction to hear murder case.

She ordered the prosecutor to forward the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and ordered the accused remanded in Ilesa prison custody till November 20.
