CHINA FLOODS: DRIVER CLINGS ON FOR LIFE
An
excavator from a Chinese building site was drafted in to save a driver stranded
in rising flood waters in China.
The man had been
trying to drive across a river in Fengjie County, in south west China's
Chongqing when he was caught up by fierce torrents.
With the water
rapidly rising, the driver managed to climb out of the side window, hanging on
to the door and leaning into the current in a desperate effort to avoid being
swept away.
At first,
onlookers tried to rescue him using a rope and lifebuoy but then an excavator
was brought in.
As the excavator
reached towards the driver, he jumped in the bucket.
But he was still
holding onto the rope and, as his vehicle was swept away with the rope tangled
around it, he was nearly dragged away too.
Luckily, he untangled
the rope from the vehicle and was carried safely to shore in the excavator's
bucket.
His vehicle was
later recovered.
