Man in court for attempting to touch hawker’s breast
The police in Ondo State on Friday arraigned a
45-year-old man, Bolaji Ajasa, before a magistrate’s court in Okitipupa for
attempting to touch the breast of a hawker, Ajoke Ibisanmi.
Ajasa, who has no fixed address, is also standing
trial on a charge of unlawful assault before Magistrate Banji Ayeomoni.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the
prosecutor, Inspector Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused on
February 21 assaulted the complainant by punching her at a construction site at
new Ayeka in Okitipupa.
Orogbemi told the court that fracas ensued when
the complainant refused an attempt by the defendant to touch one of her breasts
and other parts of her body.
The prosecutor said the offence was punishable
under Section 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the
charge levelled against him.
The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the
sum of N30,000 and a surety in like sum.
The magistrate said the surety must provide
evidence of a year tax clearance as part of the bail conditions.
The case was adjourned until March 29, 2018 for
further hearing.
