An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Tuesday sentenced a 21-year-old man, Tunde Kareem to one-year imprisonment for stealing generator parts valued at N15,000. The Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, sentenced Kareem after he pleaded guilty to a three-count charge bordering on stealing and conspiracy. Banwo said that the jail term without an option of fine should serve as deterrent to others.

Ahmed Makarfi Vs Ali Modu Sheriff The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Nigeria Police and the All Progressives Congress, APC of joining hands with the party’s authentic Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, to reduce the PDP to nothing. At a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, the faction’s Spokesperson, Prince Dayo Adeyeye blamed the police for opening the party’s National Secretariat for Sheriff and his followers.

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has signed the 2017 budget into law with an increase of over N2.5 billion. The budget proposal was reviewed upwards by the house to N147,950 billion, from the N145,447 billion earlier submitted by Governor Mohammed Abubakar. According to the state House of Assembly, the upward review was necessary in order to fund some critical sectors that require additional funding, take care of salaries, gratuities and capture grants from donor agencies to help coordinate the activities of development partners and boost internally generated revenue.

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Frontier (PDPYF) has fired back at the Presidency for branding as “mischief makers” Nigerians who hold the opinion that Acting-President, Yemi Osinbajo, within 40 days has performed better than President Muhammadu Buhari did in 20 months. The opposition youth group, in a sarcastic series of tweets published on its official twitter handle (@PDPNYF), challenged the claims made by President Muhammadu Buhari’s political adviser, Babafemi Ojudu, that the peace-building efforts of the federal government in the Niger-Delta and the recent measures put in place to arrest the downward slipping of the Naira against the Dollar in the parallel market were directives Buhari gave from London.

Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, on Tuesday, stormed the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court over a suit seeking to sack him from office for alleged “electoral fraud”. Tambuwal The suit was lodged before the court by a chieftain of the of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state, Senator Umaru Dahiru. Dahiru alleged that Tambuwal was illegally nominated by the APC to participate in the 2015 general election.

In an effort to promote excellence, two Lagos State legislators on Monday rewarded two nurses at the Isolo General Hospital, Lagos, with N200, 000 for outstanding service.  Messrs Segun Olulade and Jude Idimogu honoured Mrs Adefolakemi Oladimeji and Mrs Olufunmilayo Oyekunle following praises by patients. Olulade, the Chairman of the Lagos Assembly Committee on Health Services, and Idimogu, a member of the committee, jointly gave the reward during the committee’s visit to the hospital.

A paramount traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oloni of Eti-Oni, Oba Taiwo Dokun Thompson on Monday evening lost his 84-year-old mother, Olori Margaret Olatunde Thompson. The mother of the renowned traditional ruler died at St Anne's Church Hospital, Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State after her last words in which she said "Well, I have done my own bit and I am on my way out”, according to her nanny.

  A Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Jabi, Abuja, has ordered that Alhaja Moroophat Obanikoro, the wife of a former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, should forfeit her property pending the outcome of investigations into her husband and children. The court also rejected a prayer asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to pay her the sum of N200m for violating her fundamental human rights.

A new chapter has opened on the three-year-old crisis rocking the Assemblies of God Nigeria as Rev. An Idi-Ogungun Customary Court in Agodi, Ibadan, yesterday, ordered a DNA test to be conducted to determine the biological father of a three-year-old boy. The President of the court, Chief Mukaila Balogun, gave the order when the mother of the child, Monsurat Adeleke, and her estranged lover, Bayo Ogunsola, could not convince the court on the boy’s paternity. Balogun directed that the two parties share the cost of the DNA test and return to the court on March 27 with the result. The mother of the child had disagreed with her erstwhile lover over who the real father of the child was.

Ibraheem El-Zakzaky Femi Falana, lawyer to Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, detained leader of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), has, again, demanded that the Muslim cleric and his wife be released from detention by the Department of State Security (DSS). The call was made in a letter to the Attorney- General of the Federation (AGF). Falana reminded the AGF that Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court had on December 2, 2016, ruled that the continued detention of Sheik El-Zakzaky and wife, Ibraheema was illegal and ordered their immediate release from DSS the custody within 45 days.

From reliable sources at the Nigerian Presidency that President Muhammadu Buhari, who has been in the UK since January 19, is receiving “intense treatment” for a renewed flare-up of prostate issues. He had undergone surgical treatment for prostate cancer soon after losing the 2011 presidential election to former President Goodluck Jonathan. Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, says President Muhammadu Buhari is neither critically ill nor in a life threatening situation. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Umuahia, Abia state capital, on Monday, Mohammed said there was no need for Nigerians to worry about the president’s health. A primary school teacher in one of the public primary schools in Asaba, Delta State, (name withheld) on Thursday asked an Asaba Magistrate Court to separate her and the husband over his “small and unattractive penis.” Testifying before the court, the teacher who broke down in tears, said, “what pains me most is the way and manners my husband beats me when he cannot satisfy me each time he made love to me. I am full of regrets”.

Officials of the Department of State Services have announced the arrest of former governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam.  The ex-governor was arrested over items recovered in cars in a building in Abuja, both of which are said to belong to him. According to the DSS in a statement by Tony Opuiyo, the search of the building at 44, Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Maitama, Abuja, led to the discovery of keys of 45 exotic cars, 21 Certificates of Occupancy, arms and ammunition.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has alleged that the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina is under a curse from the Presidential villa. Fani-Kayode made the claim in response to Adesina’s reaction to a call from the President.  Adesina had on Saturday revealed that he spoke with Buhari and he thanked him “for holding out against mischief makers.”

The minister of state for health, Dr Osagie Ehanire has frowned at Nigerians who seek medical attention abroad.  According to The Guardian, Dr Ehanire described the act as unpatriotic. He therefore urged Nigerians to stay in the country and take advantage of the improved health services at the nation’s medical centres.  The minister made the comment after inspecting the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba, Delta state on Saturday, February 25. Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll has warned Muslims clerics, Islamic title holders and District heads in the state who are in the habit of beating up their wives to desist from such act. Speaking on Sunday during a mass wedding of 1,520 couples sponsored by the Kano state government, Sanusi warned that any title holder found wanting would “outrightly lose his title.”

All Progressives Congress, APC, leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that he could contest for a political office in the near future including the Presidency whenever the right opportunity presents itself.  Tinubu spoke on the sidelines of last weekend’s swearing-in of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in Akure, even as he chastised public criticisms of the management of the health condition of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A 43-year-old man, Adebisi Akinrinmola, who allegedly killed his ex-wife’s husband, Ashimiyu Ademola, last week at Ajebo village, Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State, has begged that he should not be sentenced to death, saying the devil made him do it. He disclosed this when Ogun State Police Command paraded no fewer than 43 suspected kidnappers, murderers and robbers arrested between January and February this year.

The eight-year-old marriage of Mrs Kofoworola Ajulo, 31-year-old LASTMA official, may soon hit the rocks as she wants to call it quits, citing her husband’s alleged kleptomania and ritual obsession.  Kofoworola, a resident of Faronbi Street, Abule Egba, a Lagos suburb, told an Agege Customary Court on Friday that her husband, Seyi, a 38-year-old driver, for whom she had two children, was also a drunk. “He drinks to drinks to stupor.

Mr John Idumange, the General Manager, Radio Bayelsa “Glory FM”, on Friday confirmed that he flogged four union leaders of the station in self-defence. Idumange told the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Yenagoa that the incident happened on Monday after the unions shut down the FM station operated by the state government. The Radio Bayelsa Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and Radio Television and Theatre Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) had alleged that Idumange was running the station outside public service rules.

Embattled Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh on Friday said her marriage to Olakunle Churchill was a sham. Churchill is alleged to be former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s nephew. A man and a woman each serving time for killing their first spouses have married in a prison in western Nepal — but won’t be able to consummate the marriage until the groom is released in 14 years. The couple are both in Kalikot District Jail where Dilli Koirala, 33, is serving a 20-year sentence for murdering his wife, while Mimkosha Bista has another four years to serve for killing her husband. The match between the convicted murderers, who had never met prior to the marriage ceremony, was set up by Koirala’s mother — also in prison for helping her son kill his first wife. “He murdered his wife and I did in my husband.

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) yesterday revealed that bank directors were responsible for 40 per cent of the N1.85 trillion non-performing loans or bad loans in banks. The Corporation also revealed that directors were responsible for about 40 percent of N139.45 billion bad loans in microfinance banks and mortgage banks. Managing Director/Chief Executive, (NDIC), Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim disclosed this while defending the corporation’s 2017 budget before the House Committee on Insurance and Actuarial Matters as part of its oversight function.

It was jubilation, Tuesday, at Sabo area of Ikorodu, a suburb of Lagos, when a woman gave birth to baby girl inside a commercial bus. The woman, who reportedly boarded the bus at Ijede, could not alight at the Sabo Bus Stop, as other passengers did, making the bus driver and his conductor suspicious. An eyewitness said in the usual manner in Lagos, the conductor started yelling at the woman to get down from the bus, but she could not utter a word as she had fallen into labour. It was said that the conductor, seeing that the woman was in labour, raised the alarm.

A businessman and graduate of Mechanical Engineering from a university in the South-West region of the country, Suleiman Olalekan, is to die by hanging for killing his 22-year-old wife, Chika Egbo, by bathing her with acid.  Olalekan bowed his head and remained expressionless when his sentence was pronounced before a crowded Ikeja high court, yesterday. Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo sentenced Olalekan to death after finding him guilty of a two-count charge of murder and grievous bodily harm.

The British Deputy High Commission in Lagos has announced the arrival of a new Deputy High Commissioner, Laure Beaufils. Laure who is the first female Deputy High Commissioner Laure-Beaufils Beaufils who will head the UK mission in Lagos while commenting on her arrival said that, “I’m delighted to be in Lagos and leading the UK mission here. I look forward to working with a variety of Nigerian partners to further progress the already strong UK/Nigeria relationship”. Before now, Laure Beaufils has been head of the UK Department of International Development in Rwanda since August 2014 where she managed a $100 million portfolio of programmes focusing on economic development, governance and social sectors. Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, says he is on the verge of proposing a law which will restrict poor men in the emirate from marrying many wives. Sanusi said this in Abuja on Sunday at the 50th anniversary of the death of Ambasador Isa Wali, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana who died on active duty on February 19, 1967.
