62 Nigerians committed suicide in 6 months – Police

The official confirmation that the Nigerian economy is in recession by the Federal Government on August 31, appears to have further stimulated more suicide cases across the nation. In the last six months, seven out of the 36 states of the federation sampled, have recorded over 62 cases of suicides according to statistics from the various police commands. Ogun and Lagos states have the highest figures of 25 and 12 respectively.  

Gunmen assassinate family of 6 in Lagos

Yet to be identified gunmen on Thursday murdered a family of six in the Igbogbo Community in Ikorodu, Lagos, The Sun reports. The victims were shot inside their residence in a church premises one after another by the assassins. Teachers shut down Kings College in Lagos over unpaid salary

Teachers of the King’s College (KC), Lagos have embarked of indefinite strike over alleged non-payment of salary by the school authorities. According to a notice pasted on the school gate, the angry teachers vowed to remain at home until their outstanding salaries were paid. 29-yr-old man kills daughters, dumps bodies in a stream

A Lokoja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded an applicant, Samuel Anyaogu, 29, in prison for allegedly killing his two daughters. House help executed for killing employer’s child

Saudi authorities on Monday executed an Ethiopian housemaid convicted of killing the child of her employer more than three years ago, the Interior Ministry said. The ministry noted in a statement that the execution was carried out after the death sentence was endorsed by the king. Meanwhile the convict had confessed having knifed to death the six-year-old girl in June 2013, allegedly in retaliation for her family’s ill-treatment.

Lagos State Emergency Agency, LASEMA, on Sunday said it received a distress alert, early morning, through the toll free emergency number of Lagos State 767/112 regarding a fallen truck at Ikorodu. LASEMA Emergency Response Team’s preliminary report revealed that a speeding Mack Truck with registration number AGL 664 XG laden with 33,000 litre PMS belonging to Forte Oil, while trying to turn at the roundabout, fell on a Hyundai Saloon Car with registration number KJA 421 AH.
