A middle-aged man, Kehinde Ayelehin, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing a two-year old baby in a fit of rage. It was gathered that the suspect snatched the child from the back of his mother, Faith Oluwabunmi, during a fight between them. The incident was said to have occurred on Tuesday at Alumaliu Igbose Camp in Supare Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses say the man went for the baby when he obviously could not overpower the woman and angrily dashed the baby on the floor. The child was said to have died on the way to the hospital as sympathisers made efforts to save his life. It was learnt that the fight ensued after Ayelehin accused Oluwabunmi of giving the police information about him, which led to his arrest on Sunday. Accident scene The life of a 23-year-old student of the Federal Polytechnic in Offa, Kwara State, Oladotun Alade, has been cut short by an accident involving a truck and a Volkswagen saloon car in Okuku, Osun State. One of the eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the accident occurred when the plank-carrying truck was overtaking the five-seater car. “As the truck was trying to overtake the car, the planks got detached from it and fell on the car. The three passengers sitting at the back of the car died instantly,” the eyewitness said. It was learnt that Alade, who was an ND 1 Civil Engineering student, was among the passengers sitting at the back. The Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has debunked claims by a newspaper columnist, Mr. Sonala Olumhense, that the $2.5 billion Abacha loot recovered during the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo disappeared when she was also presiding as the nation’s finance minister.
