Nnamdi Kanu finally regains freedom from Kuje Prison

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, finally regained his freedom around 6:40pm on Friday after he perfected all the bail conditions that were handed to him by trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Kanu who arrived the high court premises around 6:20pm in a black Toyota jeep with registration number ABC-46-MU, was formally released to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, a Jewish High Chief Priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and a Chartered Accountant residing in Abuja, Mr. Tochukwu Uchendu. Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor and the three sureties were at the high court registry earlier in the day to sign the necessary bail documents.

Woman slumps, dies at motor park in Uyo

A Lagos-based woman slumped and died minutes after arriving Uyo from Lagos, reports say. According to an eye witness, a co-passenger revealed that the woman’s husband brought her to the motor park in Lagos looking weak and sick. The eye witness identified as Ab Isong speaking further said “I went to Item Park long distance bus terminus where i was expecting a parcel from Lagos. On arrival I saw an unusual crowd and I decided to get close. Only to find this woman dead and laid beside the young shall grow bus which transported her to Uyo.

Tension in Abraka: 100 take refuge in police station, as herdsmen behead welder

There is anxiety in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, following the beheading of a welder and native of Urhuoka-Abraka, Mr. Solomon Ejoor, by herdsmen. Reports said villagers seized the decapitated body from police and took it to the palace of the Ovie of Oruarivie-Abraka, where it was kept for over four hours. They threatened to lay siege to the Government House, Asaba, if Governor Ifeanyi Okowa does not break his silence on the Abraka killings. The protesters destroyed cars and air conditioners at the palace, saying the monarch and his council of chiefs are not doing enough to stem the herdsmen attacks. It took the intervention of Army personnel to save the palace from being torched.

Indian actor Vinod Khanna, who starred in dozens of hit Bollywood movies including “Amar Akbar Anthony” and “Mere Apne”, died aged 70 from cancer Thursday, a Mumbai hospital said. Hindi screen icon Khanna has died after a years-long battle with cancer, Indian media reported. Tributes poured in from the world of Hindi cinema for the award-winning actor, who was lauded for his roles playing angry young men in the 1970s. Khanna was also an MP in the northern state of Punjab. “Veteran actor and Member of Parliament Mr. Vinod Khanna, who was admitted to the Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, breathed his last at 11.20 am due to advanced bladder carcinoma,” it said.

As the 100-day mark of Donald Trump’s presidency approaches, a new CNN/ORC poll finds the President reaches this milestone holding on to the lowest approval rating of any newly-elected president at this stage, amid sharp partisan divides and a failure to capitalise on post-election strengths. US President Donald Trump Overall, 44% say they approve of Trump’s handling of the presidency, 54% disapprove. That’s about the same as in each of the two previous CNN/ORC polls taken after his inauguration. That 44% marker puts Trump last among approval ratings for newly-elected presidents at the 100-day point since modern polling began, a trendline that runs back to Dwight Eisenhower.

Nnamdi Kanu’s family rejects bail condition

The father of leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, His Royal Highness, Eze Israel Kanu, his wife Ugoeze Sally Kanu, have rejected the bail conditions given by Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja High Court to free his son, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, saying Kanu should be released unconditionally. In fact, both the father and the mother, Ugoeze Sally and their daughter Chinwe, faulted Justice Binta Nyako for the bail condition given to Nnamdi to be freed. Speaking to reporters at Isiama Afaraukwu, Umuahia North Council, Eze Israel Kanu said while the family was happy over the bail granted their son, they rejected the bail condition, saying that the conditions attached to it was not necessary.

4 to die by hanging for stealing okada in Osun

An Osogbo high court, Osun State, yesterday, sentenced four persons to death by hanging for conspiracy and robbery. The convicts, Joseph Moses, 24; Samuel Job,19; Gideon Ode, 25, and Daniel Abraham, 24, were charged with a four-count charge of robbery, conspiracy among others. The prosecutor, Mrs Idiat Temitope, told the court that the convicts committed the offence on October 14, 2013 at about 8p.m. along Kajola Expressway in Osogbo. Temitope, the State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice, said the convicts conspired among themselves to rob one Abubakar Rauf of his motorcycle, with number plates BDG 896 QB.

Brazilians arrested for importing N310m canned cocaine

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State, have apprehended two Brazilians for unlawful importation of cocaine. The suspects, who claimed to be tourists, had allegedly smuggled the drug weighing 23.9 kilogrammes in sealed cans into the country.  The narcotic, which was estimated at N310m, was found in their luggage during the screening of passengers on arrival at the airport.

The Presidency has ordered the recall of the correspondent of Punch newspapers, Olalekan Adetayo, attached to the State House, Abuja, barely 10 hours after his expulsion from the beat. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, confirmed this development in a message addressed to the Chairman of the State House Press Corps, Malam Ubale Musa. The presidential spokesman revealed that the recall of Adetayo followed the intervention of the Director-General of the Department for State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura.

Doctor who prescribed drugs for Late Isiaka Adeleke arrested

One Dr. Ade, who treated Senator Isiaka Adeleke, when he complained of leg pain early Sunday morning has been arrested for interrogation by the police.   One of his aides made the confirmation to newsmen on Monday. He said the doctor was arrested on Monday, following the report that Adeleke died as a result of an overdose of medications he administered on him. Isiaka Adeleke and Osun state Deputy Gov. An 18-year-old sex worker, Aisha Idris, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly selling her three-month-old baby for N200,000. The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Usman Ali Abdullahi, disclosed that Aisha Idris conspired with a nurse, Ogugua Oko, working with the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, who linked them up with the buyer of the baby.

12 states still owe workers salaries despite bailout

Lagos landlord beats wife to death, flees

Residents of Solar Power Drive, Igbo Olomu, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State are in shock after a landlord in the community, Omolaja Sodipo, allegedly stabbed his wife, Titilayo, killing her. Sympathisers, friends and family members of the mother of four, trooped to their bungalow on Monday, where Titilayo laid in a pool of blood. The husband was said to have fled the scene. Community leaders reportedly alerted policemen from the Owutu division, who removed the corpse and deposited it in a mortuary.

EFCC charges ex-Niger gov, Aliyu, with N3bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has charged the immediate past Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, and the 2015 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Umar Nasko, with an alleged N3bn fraud. It was learnt that the charges had been filed before a Federal High Court in Minna, Niger State. Nasko also served as Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Environment under Aliyu’s administration between 2007 and 2015.
