Two students of the Kwara State University (KWASU), identified as Tobiloba Daniel and Arewa Abayomi, have been found dead and naked in a hostel room. The 200-level students were reportedly found dead in Daniel’s hostel room located off campus, and they were both stark naked. A student of the institution who spoke in confidence to Daily Trust said they grew concerned when the deceased students missed an examination. The student said, “We suspect they were lovers and became concerned when they were not seen during an examination and for three days. “It was when some of their friends got to their hostel room outside the school that they found them dead and naked. We suspect it’s a case of poisoning.” The Kwara State Police Spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, said. “The information is that the two of them were found dead inside their room and the police were alerted. “Our officers pulled down the door and they were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospita

As the United States government plans to return the over $23 million looted by the late dictator Sani Abacha, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has demanded a copy of the agreement. Last Tuesday, Nigeria and the United States reached an agreement on the return of over $23 million of the Abacha loot. Five days after, the rights group wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, asking him to “direct the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) to provide our organization with a copy of the agreement the Federal Government recently signed with the United States for the repatriation of $23 million stolen by late General Sani Abacha.”

The Enugu State Police Command has arraigned three women for an alleged conspiracy, trafficking of newborn twins and subsequent killing of their mother. This was contained in a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesman Daniel Ndukwe. The statement noted that the suspects; Ukorie Cynthia (25), Onyia Pauline (56) and Aroh Ijeoma (39) were remanded in the Enugu Maximum Correctional Centre on Friday. The statement stated that the trio were first arrested by operatives of the command attached to the Central Police Station Enugu July 26, 2022 following complaints that the suspects had conspired and sold newborn twins of one 31-year-old Chinenye Odoh. The statement noted that the suspects didn’t stop with the selling of the twins, but also murdered their mother by poisoning her food after she realised that the suspects gave her an amount lesser than the amount they sold her babies. According to the statement, the case has been adjourned to October 5, 2022 for trial.

A newly-married man, Paul Turovsky, 34, has landed in police custody during his honeymoon for hiring a sex worker. Turovsky, it was gathered responded to an ad placed by an undercover detective from Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Florida, United States of America. According to the New York Post, Turovsky, left his new bride sleeping in their hotel room in Tampa and went out to meet a sex worker he had connected with online. When the self-employed businessman arrived at the meeting point, he was placed in handcuffs; caught in a sting operation by local police to crack down on sex trafficking. The Hillsborough County Sheriff, Chad Chronister, added that Turovsky was one of 176 men arrested in the sting operation. Turovsky got married on July 15, 2022.

The pastor of Truth and The Spirit Prophetic Church in Lagos state, Mercy Okoch, 50, and nine of her church members have been arrested for allegedly stoning a 25-year-old traditional worshipper, Agboola Akeem, to death during a clash on Tuesday, August 23 at about 6.30pm. According to a police source, officers attached to the Oko Oba Police Division received a distress call that the church located at Number 2 Sanni Taiwo Lawal street in Oko Oba, was about to be set ablaze. The officers immediately stormed the church premises. Preliminary investigation showed that the traditional worshippers were celebrating their Oro festival while the church members were having a church service. The traditional worshippers allegedly invaded the church premises and asked the church members to discontinue their service. No fewer than 91 students from Zamfara state have been expelled by Cyprus International University over the failure of the Northwestern state government to pay the tuition and other fees. The students who are on state-sponsored scholarships in the university were evicted because Zamfara has not fulfilled the agreement for the scholarship signed some years ago. Commissioner for Information, Zamfara State, Ibrahim Dosara, confirmed to BBC Hausa Service that part of the funds being owed to the university and the students were paid recently. Dosara said, “We are working to make the balance payment as quickly as possible. Besides, the State Government had an agreement with Cyprus University that the remaining part of the money would be paid as soon as possible. “Also, these students should know from day one that some challenges might be witnessed in the studies abroad but that does not mean we have abandoned them.”

Nigerian athlete, Tobi Amusan has set a new record by winning the 100 meters hurdles gold at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the United Kingdom.  The 25-year-old clocked 12.30 seconds to set a new game record.   World champion Oluwatobiloba Amusan made the fastest time in Round 1 Heat of the Women’s 100m Hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which was concluded this morning. The Nigerian sensation ran 12.40 seconds to finish first in Heat 3 and qualified for the next round alongside Michelle Jenneke of Australia’s (12.63) and Canada’s Michelle Harrison (12.85).

A teenager, Hamza Yahaya has on Friday threatened to commit suicide from popular Kofar Nasarawa flyover bridge in ancient city of Kano if President Muhammadu Buhari does not resigns. Hamza’s action created a scene under the bridge linking to the Emir of Kano’s palace and State road as passerby stopped by to catch a glimpse of the scenario. It was gathered that the one man protest could not be unconnected to the economy situation or hardship in the country.  It took the intervention of firemen to rescue Hamza from the pavement of the bridge.

The Registrar, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has said the conduct of its 2022 mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination cost over N100m. Speaking on Saturday while monitoring the conduct of the examination in some centres in Lagos, Oloyede explained that rewriting of the exam became a necessity for candidates who could not participate in the examination during the main exercise in May for various reasons and largely due to examination malpractice. He added that over 42,000 candidates were participating in the examination in five states.

Daisy is wife of Rtd.
