Carpenter killed in high -tension wire tragedy; wife collapse and died too

There was confusion in the Mushin area of Lagos State after a 51-year-old carpenter, Muritador Ajayi, was electrocuted by a live high-tension wire. The deceased was working on the roof of a building under construction on Bamigboye Street, when power was suddenly restored to the area. Muritador’s hammer was said to have touched the wire as he raised it to drive in a nail, which led to his electrocution.

The senior advocate said this in a three-page statement on Wednesday while reacting to Okonjo-Iweala’s diatribe against him. Speaking at the sensitisation campaign of the state health workers, organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs yesterday, President, Environmental Health Officers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Mr. Samuel Akingbehin, said his association had so far carried out anti-rodent exercise in eight local governments in the state.

A 59-year-old landlady, Mrs Floyinka Ayinda has been arrested and detained at Idimu division for her alleged role in vandalising NNPC pipeline in Isheri Olofin area of Lagos State, western Nigeria. Ayinda allegedly connected a pipe inside her water well to NNPC pipeline and has been siphoning petrol illegally for the past three years.

There was pandemonium at the Omole bus stop on Oba Ogunnusi Road in the Ojodu area of Lagos State on Tuesday after a traffic warden, Sunday Charles, engaged in fisticuffs with a motorist, identified only as Kingsley. Kingsley, who was stopped by a team of traffic wardens at the junction, was allesgedly beaten up by Charles for refusing to part with N50.

Alamieyeseigha to be buried March 26

The burial ceremony of the late former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, will commence on March 24 and end on March 26, a family source said on Tuesday.  Alamieyeseigha would have been buried on November 16 last year, the day he would have marked his 63 birthday. But it was reportedly put off because of preparations for the state governorship election and lack of agreement between the state government and the deceased’s family.

Paris taxi drivers block major route in French capital, in protest against Uber

The drivers, who were also protesting against unlicensed cab firms, joined a nationwide public sector strike. Millions of teachers, health workers and air traffic controllers are protesting against labour reforms.  At least 20 taxi drivers were arrested for "violence, carrying weapons and starting a fire", police said. Some had set bonfires on the road before dawn.

Kogi: Tribunal declines to stop Bello’s inauguration

Kogi State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Lokoja yesterday struck out two motions seeking interlocutory injunction to stop the inauguration of the Governor-elect, Yahaya Bello as the governor of the state. Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Halima Mohammed, in her ruling dismissed the motions, saying though the tribunal has Jurisdiction to entertain such prayers, but the motions were not contained in the original petitions brought by the plaintiffs involved.

Ijaw elders in Delta State, yesterday, said it was impracticable for them to hand over the former General Officer Commanding, GOC, of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, to security agencies because they neither have the power to do so nor know his (Tompolo) whereabouts currently. Landlord docked for breaking into tenant’s apartment

A 56-year-old landlord, Suleiman Ahmodu, who allegedly broke into his tenant’s apartment and stole property worth N1.1 million, was docked at an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on Lagos Island, yesterday. Two ‘lunatics’ caught with rotting human head in Osun

The   Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun Command, has arrested two suspects, who pretended to be mad, for being in possession of a decomposing human head. The suspects, Alaba Folawiyo and Mutiu Lawal, according to Mr. Wale Folarin, the state’s NSCDC Public Relations Officer, were hiding in an uncompleted building near Apomu Junction in Ikire, headquarters of Irewole LGA, when they were arrested.

Court jails cop for killing student

An Edo State High Court in Benin on Monday sentenced a police corporal, Amadin Idahosa, to life imprisonment for killing a 22-year-old student, Ibrahim Momodu, in 2013. Idahosa had been arraigned on one count of murder. He was said to have committed the offence at about 11pm, on May 27, 2013, in Benin.

Hoodlums slaughter 23-year-old, ask residents not to panic

Some hoodlums have invaded Iya Agan Street on Old Apapa Road in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State, killing a 23-year-old, identified only as Dada. The hoodlums, who wielded guns and cutlasses, asked residents not to panic while they slaughtered Dada, alias Ratio, saying they (hoodlums) did not come for innocent lives. FG removes kerosene subsidy; Kerosene now N83 per litre

The Federal Government has officially ended the payment of subsidy on kerosene. Instead of the regulated pump price of N50 per litre, the product will now sell for N83, according to the latest pricing template for House Hold Kerosene released by the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency. Police arrest four men for possessing human skulll

The police said in Enugu on Wednesday that they had nabbed four suspects in possession of a human skull on the Enugu-Abakaliki expressway. Briefing newsmen, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ekechukwu Nwodibo, said that the four men were arrested in a bus. “We arrested these four men with a human skull but after thorough investigation, we discovered that one of them, John Igwe, was the real person in possession of the skull.

Seriki chiefs seek to stop Adetunji as Olubadan

Man accused of raping three-year- old daughter

A 32-year-old man, identified simply as Mustapha, has been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command for allegedly raping his three-year-old daughter, Iqma (pseudonym). It was learnt that the incident happened on January 12 in the Katako area of the state while the victim’s mother was cooking in a makeshift kitchen within their compound. The woman had gone into the room to pick some ingredients for the dish she was preparing when she caught her husband in the act.

Truck crushes 15-year-old boy to death

A truck belonging to a construction company, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, on Tuesday reportedly crushed a 15-year-old boy, identified simply as Imisioluwa, to death at Oke-Ijeun, in the Sapon area of Abeokuta. Three other siblings of Imisioluwa ─ Ayomipo, Ayomide, and Nifemi ─ escaped death by a whisker.

A 43-year-old man, Opeyemi Adesina, who allegedly paraded himself as a consultant gynaecologist with the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba, says he paid N100,000 to buy the seven forged certificates he used. Our correspondent learnt that Adesina, who hails from Ekiti State, was arrested on Tuesday by the Alakara Police Division on Alowolodu Street in the Alapere, Ketu area of Lagos State.

12-year-old victim of torture shuns home

A 12-year-old boy, Michael Agu, has been brought to the Lagos State Government by a neighbour in the Victoria Island area of the state after five years of being allegedly tortured by her aunt, identified only as Mama Sarah. Agu told   our correspondent   that he did not want to go back to the woman because of the torture. The boy, who was brought from the Imuneze area of Anambra State to stay with the woman around 2010, was registered in a secondary school just last year. He was said not to be punctual in school due to alleged abuse.

Woman Arrested After Admitting To Killing Lover On Facebook

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested after she admitted on Facebook that she had stabbed her boyfriend to death in San Bernadino, California, USA. The death of Dorian Powell, 21, came to light after his girlfriend Nakasia James,18, confessed on her social media page that she killed her lover during a drunk fight. Powell and James were reportedly dating for about nine months before the terrifying incident occured on January 11.
