Passengers stranded inside bush as Kano-bound train breaks down
A train traveling to Kano state from Lagos state
has developed faults in a forest outside Osogbo, capital of Osun State, leaving
passengers stranded.
Majority of the passenger on the train were going
to Kano to celebrate the New Year with their family members and that there was
no hope for them to continue the journey.
One of the train passages who is a member of the
National Youth Service Corps told our correspondent that since the train
developed the fault, the officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation in the
train did not act in a responsible manner and that the passengers were exposed
to danger in the bush.
The Corps member said, "This train is going
to Kano from Lagos and it developed fault after leaving osogbo. We are in a
bush before ikirun since morning. We are stranded here since 7am and there is
no hope even till this now. And the authorities are reckless about it. We are
suffering in the bush".
Other passengers also lamented that the NRC
official in the train did not manage the situation well and called on the top
echelon of the Nigerian Railway Corporation to come to their rescue.
