Student gives birth secretly, throws newborn down fourth-floor window
A nineteen-year-old student threw her newborn baby
out of a fourth-floor window after secretly giving birth in her university
room, according to reports.
The horrifying incident is said to have happened
at Xi’an Engineering Technology College in Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province,
north-western China.
Disturbing footage seemingly showing the dead tot
wrapped in a bed sheet lying on the ground beneath the dormitory building was
circulated online.
The infant – whose gender was not given – was
later found by a campus security guard and pronounced dead by hospital staff,
reports said.
The student was said to be a resident on the
fourth floor of the dormitory.
Policemen probing the incident reportedly said the
young woman – who was studying nursery education – was in a stable condition
and had been brought back to her family.
She is said to have told authorities she got
pregnant in February but kept it a secret.
Neither her relatives nor any staff at her school
knew and did not suspect anything because she was always in class.
One unnamed teacher was quoted as saying: “One
thing is certain: she is a good child. She never missed class.
“During the eight or nine months (she was
pregnant), it included the summer holidays in August and September. So, if her
family didn’t know, there is no way we could have.”
The police have yet to reveal the identity of the
child’s father, but teachers reportedly said he was not a student of the
university.
Investigators said they were now in the process of
determining whether the infant died before or after being thrown from the
dormitory window.
