Ex- Nigerian Airways workers take over Airport road over unpaid pension

Hundreds of workers of the defunct Nigerian Airways have taken over the Murtala Muhammed Airport road, protesting over non payment of their pensions.

The defunct National Carrier was liquidated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2005 while the workers have been in the trenches fighting for the payment of their final entitlements.

Some of the former workers however took to the street on Wednesday morning over the delay in the payment of their entitlements and final benefits amounting to over N70bn.

They were carrying placards with inscriptions such as: "Pls pay our severance benefits in full"; "We need our pay off, not monthly pension", Mr. President we prayed for your recovery every Friday since May 2017; among others.

The peaceful demonstration amidst heavy security presence worsened traffic snarls at the domestic wing of the Lagos Airport.

It is still ongoing as at press time.
