Fake doctor infects 6-yr-old boy with HIV

The fake Doctor, Jonathan Ibrahim
Nasarawa State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has said that a fake medical doctor arrested for allegedly infecting a six-year-old boy with HIV through unscreened blood transfusion has tested positive to the virus.

NSCDC Commandant in the state Lawan Bashir-Kano, who disclosed this to journalists in Lafia yesterday, said investigation into the case revealed that both the 30-year-old fake doctor Jonathan Ibrahim and his wife tested positive to the HIV virus.

He said the command had concluded investigation and the state government, through the Attorney-General, had commenced prosecution of the suspect.

“As we speak, the suspect has already been remanded at the Lafia prison following his arraignment at the Upper Area Court in Doma on Tuesday, August 1,” he said.

He said the command is working to see how it can assist the boy’s family to ameliorate his plight and called on spirited individuals to help the family through the state command.

Bashir-Kano said the suspect, who operated a clinic at Iwashi village in Doma Local Government Area of the state, was arrested following complaint about his activities from members of the public, including the parents of the boy recently infected with the virus.

The commandant said the suspect had confessed to running an illegal clinic and transfused unscreened blood to the boy in question, along with three other patients at his facility last year.

The commandant called on members of the public to be vigilant and wary of fake medical practitioners and report any suspicious medical personnel or outfit to security agencies for action.
