Yobo joins Wike’s cabinet
Just few days after he was honoured with a chieftancy title by his kinsmen, Nyesom
Wike, governor of Rivers state, has appointed Joseph Yobo, former Super Eagles
captain, as his senior special assistant on sports development.
Wike
also appointed Chibuzor Aholu as the senior special assistant on financial
matters.
According
to Simeon Nwakaudu, the governor’s special assistant on electronic media, the
appointments take immediate effect.
Yobo
campaigned vigorously for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the buildup to
the 2015 general election.
The
footballer, who hails from the Khana area of Rivers, was recently conferred
with a traditional title – Mene Aborlo 1.
Yobo
had his testimonial match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt on
May 27, and the state government played a key role in the success of the event.
The
former Everton defender goes into history as the first male Nigerian footballer
to reach 100 international caps.
