Gunmen kill lawyer, snatch car in Delta
Suspected
bandits have shot dead 36 years old lawyer, Emmanuel Egwuatu at Eziokpor road,
Obiaruku community in Delta Sate and snatched his Honda car.
According to Vanguard,t his car with registration number, AKD 382 AA, broke down along
Eziokpor road in the community and he was waiting for a mechanic to fix the car
when the robbers struck.
Police Public Relations Officer in Delta State,
Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident, adding that detectives from Obiaruku
Division visited the scene and removed the remains to the mortuary for autopsy.
However, she said luck ran out of two armed men operating with a motor
cycle,with registration number, ACA 833 QA, after robbing one Julius Abanum of
his Toyota Camry car, registration number, BKW 892 AR, of his car, parked at
Winners Church Chapel, Obiaruku at gunpoint.
Kalu asserted that an
informant, who heard about the snatched car, “informed detectives that two
young men he could identify if seen took him to fix a faulty army green colour
Toyota Camry car at a lonely spot, along Obiaruku/Utagba-Uno road, close to
Ebedei village.” “The informant further disclosed that the young men,
who could not immediately pay for his workmanship, pledged a handset, promising
to pay him later and collect their handset,” she added.
Her words,
“Based on the information, detectives mounted surveillance and later arrested
one Festus Okenedu ‘m’, aged 33 years when he came back to collect the handset
from the electrician, while his accomplice escaped.”
She disclosed, “One
black bag containing one laptop, some documents, Bible and Christian tracts
were recovered from the suspect. Information obtained from the laptop revealed
that the recovered laptop belonged to Barrister. Emmanuel Egwatu, killed the
previous night by unknown person(s).” The police spokesperson
said, “The suspect is assisting the police in its investigation into the two
incidents while efforts to track down the fleeing suspect and recover the
snatched vehicle are ongoing.”
