A member of
staff of Radio Kwara,
who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent on Tuesday that the
corps member was found dead on Sunday night in Ilorin.
He stated that
Idowu, who lived at Tanke on University Road, Ilorin, had gone to the Kwara
State Shopping Mall on Fate Road on Saturday and did not return home.
He added that
the corpse of the corps member was found on Sunday night around GRA Ilorin.
According to
him, Idowu was an indigene of Ogun State, but lived in Lagos State before she
came to serve in Kwara.
The Kwara State
NYSC Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oladipo Morakinyo, confirmed the death of
the corps member.
He said death
was a natural phenomenon, adding that the state NYSC had contacted the
deceased’s family.
Morakinyo said,
“It is only the medical expert that can diagnose what actually killed her and
this is beyond the scope of our scheme. The most important thing is that a
corps member died; the NYSC has done the necessary thing that we are expected
to do; we have contacted the family.”
The state Police
Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okesanmi, also confirmed the death of the
corps member.
He stated that
the corpse would be released to the family, adding that investigation into the
cause of her death had already commenced.
The PPRO however
said he could not confirm the cause of Idowu’s death, but said no part of the
corps member’s body was missing.
He also said
that it was most unlikely that she was raped, adding that investigations so far
conducted on the corpse did not reveal a case of rape.
Okesanmi said,
“We are still investigating. We cannot conclusively say it is a case of
abduction or ritual killing because no part of her body was missing. All the
parts of her body were intact. It could be a case of a hit-and-run or an auto
accident.
“I can’t confirm
that she was raped because all the examinations conducted on her did not show
any sign of rape, but we are still investigating.
“Nobody has
volunteered any statement to us. If anybody has any useful information, such a
person should get in touch with the police.
“As far as we
are concerned, it was a reported case of ‘found dead’ with a broken skull and
bruises.”
