Mystery surrounds the death of a Tyneside man, John Knotts who was killed in
a 36-storey plunge from a Thailand apartment block.
Today, as
investigations in North Pattaya are ongoing, tributes were paid to John Knotts
from Blaydon, Gateshead. The 49-year-old
sustained life-threatening injuries when he fell from a flat nearly 300ft at
the Sky Beach Condominium near Naklua Road.
John's lifelong
friend John Westgarth told how he sent a chilling email to John just a day
before his death warning him of the dangers of Thailand - claiming he was
"heading for a big fall".
The 64-year-old,
of Winlaton, Gateshead, said he became "infatuated" with Thailand and
the culture and would often visit the country up to five times a year.
The retired
businessman told the Chronicle: "It goes back 10 years ago
when John first went on holiday to Thailand.
"He became
infatuated with the place.
"He saw the
Thai culture and Pattaya as a way of life and he became bemused by it.
"He couldn't
go back enough times.
"He was on
benefits but any money he got he used to go back to Thailand.
"He would
arrange to go there three or four times and last year he went five times in one
year.
"He had one
or two relationships with Thai ladies and he was looking to fall in love.
