Save Baby Sodiq; ‘DOCTOR SAYS MY BABY RISKS PERMANENT BLINDNESS’ - MOTHER
The mother of a
10-month-old baby has cried for help from Nigerians in order for the baby to
see with his two eyes.
The mother of the baby,
Funmilayo Oladiran, told our correspondent in Osogbo on Thursday that doctors
had told her that the baby, Sodiq, might lose his two eyes if something urgent
was not done to correct the defect in the eye which was increasingly bulging
out of its socket due to cataract.

Funmilayo, who is from Ejigbo
in Osun State, said she was a petty trader and that her husband and herself had
no one to turn to for help.
Funmilayo added that all the
efforts they had made to raise money for the baby’s treatment had been futile
while calling on Nigerians to help them.
She said, “One of his eyes is
bulging out and he cannot see with the eye. Sodiq is 10 months old and this
started not long after I gave birth to him.
“We took him to LAUTECH
Teaching Hospital, Osogbo. Two surgeries were carried out on him but I was told
that there remains an operation to be carried out to stop the cataract from
spreading to the other eye and for him to see.
“I don’t want him to go blind
but I don’t have money to go for any treatment again. That is why I am calling
on anybody who can assist us to save my baby from blindness.
“We need financial assistance
to enable us take him to a hospital for further treatment. I will be happy if
Nigerians can just help to make my baby to see well again.”
The mother said that there
was no history of eye problem in neither her family nor her husband’s family.
