Mondli Gungubele has condemned the torching of a clinic in Thokoza on Gauteng's
East Rand. South Africa
The Phenduka Clinic was looted and torched overnight, allegedly by angry residents following a power outage in the area.
Gungubele says computers and medication were also stolen from the clinic.
“It’s appalling and disappointing that people would decide to launch some kind of criminal activity under the auspices of a service delivery protests. Because of a power outage, they decided to burn a clinic.”
Last month, residents in Vuwani in Limpopo torched more than 20 schools during a dispute over demarcations.
Residents were protesting over a decision by the Municipal Demarcation Board to incorporate the area into a new municipality.
