Building Collapse in Mushin Today

A Building collapse in Mushin  A newly completed two-storey building has collapsed on an adjoining bungalow after today’s downpour. Seven adults - four male and three female- were affected in 12 Cameroun St. Mushin.  They were rescued and taken to Isolo General Hospital.  The collapsed building has been marked for structural and integrity testing by Lagos State Building Control Agency and Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory. Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other first responders were at the scene.

Man loots church, Amotekun nabs suspect in Osogbo

The Amotekun Corps in Osun has arrested a 47-year-old man who allegedly broke into the Cheribum and Seraphim Church in Ogo-Oluwa Area, Osogbo. The state Amotekun Commander, Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (rtd.), said that the suspect broke into the church at about 4am on Friday. He told journalists in Osogbo on Saturday that the suspect was apprehended after a resident notified operatives of the corps. “Our men received a distress call from one of the residents of Ogo-Oluwa that a church was being burgled and they needed the attention of our operatives urgently to arrest the suspect. Adewimbi said a sound system engine, microphones, drum sets and other items were recovered from the suspect. The commander said the suspect was handed over to the police for further investigation. He appealed to residents to continue to provide the corps with information that would help in curbing crime in the state. Father demands probe as 12-year-old Chrisland student dies during inter-house sports

Michael Adeniran, the father of a 12-year-old Chrisland International School student, Opebi branch, has taken to social media to cry out over the death of his daughter, Whitney Adeniran, who allegedly died during the school’s inter-house sports activities. According to posts making the rounds on social media on Saturday night, Adeniran said his daughter died on Thursday at the Agege Stadium, where the school used for its sporting activities. According to him, the child had no health condition or sickness as at when the school bus picked her up for the event. Adeniran, who also said that there was no explanation given to himself and his wife from the school, added that his wife was present at the stadium, but the school did not call her attention to the incident immediately. He has subsequently called on the Lagos State Government and the police to look into the matter and get justice for his slain child. Stakeholders knock ministry over N1.4bn refreshment budget

Some stakeholders have faulted the sports ministry for budgeting a staggering N1,480,971,399bn in the 2023 appropriation budget to cater for refreshments, meals, settlement of honorarium, sitting allowances, publicity, welfare packages, and other miscellaneous. Our correspondent learnt that the amount is part of the N193,418,082,888bn allocated to the sports ministry from the N21.83trn bill passed by the National Assembly and signed by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.). The breakdown of the amount showed that N26,156,222m was allocated to refreshments and meals, while N140,668,563m would be spent on welfare packages. According to the documents sourced from the Budget Office of the Federation, the allocation for the ministry, excluding the four agencies under its control, stood at N8,906,051,356bn. The ministry also earmarked N20.579m for honorarium and sitting allowances, N2.3m for postage and courier services, N4.704m for medical, N10.209m for subscription to profes...

Man dies after touching third rail at River North CTA train tracks, police say

A 31-year-old man died after touching the third rail of a Chicago Transit Authority train track in River North late Friday night, police said. The man had fallen onto Brown Line tracks before touching the dangerous, electrified third rail at 10:22 p.m. at 350 N. Wells St., the address of the Merchandise Mart CTA station, authorities said. DPO slumps, dies inside his office in Lagos

Lagos State Divisional Police Officer, DPO, of Seme Police Division, CSP Salami Mojeed, reportedly slumped and died in his office on Tuesday. The deceased is said to have complained of headache and visited the hospital on the same day. But was still feeling unwell after his return. It was reported the DPO instructed his orderly to inform the Divisional Crime Officer, DCO, to come to his office, as he wanted to leave but not without handing over official proceedings to the DCO. The orderly, however, returned to meet him on the floor, gasping for breath. He was later confirmed dead by Badagry General Hospital where he was rushed to. Confirming the incident in a tweet on Friday, the Lagos State Police spokesman SP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the DPO’s passage. He said, ”We regret to announce the death (while in service) of SP Salami Mojeed, DPO of Seme Division, which occurred on Tuesday, 10 of January 2023, following a brief illness.
