Hoodlum beats, rapes 27-year-old woman cos she didn't greet him

Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 33-year-old man, Imoleayo Adekoya, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 27-year-old lady. Adekoya reportedly dragged the victim to an isolated area after accusing her of not greeting him and raped her. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested on Saturday following a report lodged by the victim at the Sakora divisional police headquarters, Sagamu. He said the lady complained that while she was coming from the Ipoji area in Sagamu, she was accosted by the suspect, who accused her of not greeting him. Oyeyemi said, “She stated further that she apologised to him not to be annoyed, that it was because she didn’t know him. “But surprisingly, the man pounced on her and started beating her and dragged her to the back of his house, where she forcefully tore her clothes and had sex with her despite her shouting and struggli...

ASUU threatens fresh strike, gives FG Tuesday ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed its readiness to embark on another round of industrial action following what it called the failure of the Federal Government to implement an agreement signed with the union. The union is giving the government till month end (Tuesday) to reach out or it will activate the procedure of embarking on strike. The union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who disclosed this in an interview on Sunday, added that the FG representative no longer picked his calls.

21-day notice: Strike dangerous now, FG begs doctors, NMA, ministry disagree

The Federal Government, on Sunday, expressed concern about the 21-day strike notice issued by the Nigerian Medical Association over the alleged failure of government to meet the demands of the striking resident doctors. The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, while responding to an inquiry by one of our correspondents on the threat by the NMA, said doctors should stop embarking on strikes at dangerous times and appealed to the resident doctors to call off their strike. Ehanire said these as the Federal Government and the NMA disagreed on the 21-day ultimatum issued by the umbrella body of medical doctors in the country. The NMA, in a statement on Saturday after its National Executive Council meeting in Benin, Edo State, said its affiliates, including the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria, the Medical and Dental Doctors in Academics and the National Association of Resident Doctors, had resolved to commence a nationwide strike after the ultimatum. n

Bandits kill Senator Na’Allah’s son, two others in Kaduna

Some bandits in separate attacks have killed three persons, including a pilot, in two local government areas of Kaduna North and Kajuru, Kaduna State. The pilot, Captain Abdukkarim Bala Na’Allah, said to be the eldest son of Senator Bala Na’Allah, was killed by the hoodlums in his Malali (GRA) residence in Kaduna North Local Government Area on Sunday. Senator Na’Allah represents Kebbi South Senatorial seat in the Senate and was the Deputy Majority leader in the Eighth Senate. An aide to Senator Na’Allah, Malam Garba Mohammed, confirmed the killing of the trained pilot. British Supermarket, Waitrose is offering lorry drivers more money than some head office executives amid a national shortage. The supermarket is offering up to £53,780 annually to large goods vehicle (LGV) drivers, who it says are of 'critical importance'. This dwarfs the salaries being offered for several head office jobs advertised at John Lewis Partnership, Waitrose's parent company. These include two senior executive roles at £45,000, and a finance analyst job at £46,700. The national shortage of some 90,000 drivers has led to shortages of supplies at supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, prompting some large chains, including Nandos and McDonalds, to temporarily close or remove items from their menus. A former Team GB gymnast has been convicted of sexual assault after he abused a vulnerable and drunk woman, after bragging 'I'm going to f*** her' to his friends. Alexander Hicken, from Basingstoke, who is now a coach at a renowned Hampshire gymnastics school, preyed on his intoxicated victim after she was put to bed at a party in August 2019. The 23-year-old tumbling coach, who had a girlfriend, ignored the woman's demands to stop during the eight-hour ordeal and repeatedly sexually touched her, Winchester Crown Court heard. The disgraced gymnast, who represented the junior Team GB at Loule Gymnastic World Cup in Portugal in 2012, faces jail after he was convicted unanimously by jurors after a four-day trial. Twelve US soldiers among 90 that died in 'ISIS suicide bomb' attack at Kabul airport

Twelve US serviceman have been killed and 15 more have been injured in two bomb attacks outside Kabul airport today, while reports suggest explosions across the city have continued into the night. Jihadist splinter group ISIS-K are believed to be behind the two earlier blasts outside the gates of Kabul airport, where thousands of Afghans have been awaiting for evacuation by Western forces. Senior health officials in Kabul say the death toll could be as high as 90, with 150 more people believed to be injured. General Kenneth F. McKenzie, the Head of U.S. Central Command, tonight confirmed 12 US soldiers have died and at least 15 have been injured in attacks. They include 11 US marines and a Navy medic. It is the deadliest attack against US Forces in 10 years.

Kano child bride, who killed husband, regains freedom after Seven years

A child bride, Rahma Hussein, found culpable of killing her husband seven years ago has regained freedom. Hussein, jailed at 16, was freed by the Committee on Prison Reforms and Decongestion. The committee led by Justice Ishaq Bello also facilitated the release of 30 other inmates from different custodial centres in the state on Friday. In 2014, Hussein was arrested and charged to a High Court in Kano State for stabbing her husband to death, barely 24 hours after their wedding. Delivering judgment in 2018, Justice R. A. Sadik, ordered Hussein to be ‘detained at the pleasure of the governor of the state’ because she was forcefully married and committed the offence at 16. On Friday, the committee, in its ongoing tour to decongest prisons, found Hussein worthy of benefiting from presidential pardon. SERAP sues FG, seeks details of ‘payment of N729bn to poor Nigerians’

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit asking the Federal High Court in Lagos “to compel the Federal Government to disclose details of proposed payments of N729bn to 24.3 million poor Nigerians, including the mechanisms and logistics for the payments, list of beneficiaries, and how they have been selected, and whether the payments will be made in cash or through Bank Verification Numbers or other means.” SERAP is also seeking “an order directing and compelling the Federal Government to explain the rationale for paying N5,000 to 24.3 million poor Nigerians for six months, which translates to five-percent of the country’s budget of N13.6 trillion for 2021.” SERAP is also seeking: “an order directing and compelling the Federal Government to clarify whether the proposed payment to poor Nigerians is part of the N5.6 trillion budget deficit.”

FG approves N50bn loan for Katsina

Katsina Commissioner for Budget, Faruk Jobe, on Saturday says that the Federal Government has approved N50bn loan for the state to enable it finance some major projects. He stated this during the 2021 citizens budget sensitisation workshop held at the old Government House, Katsina. The commissioner said that the loan,which was part of the 2021 budget, will be used to complete ongoing projects and embark on new ones. He mentioned some of the projects that the loan would be utilised on to include construction of under- bypass at Kofar Kaoran and at Kofar Kwaya junction. A freak accident involving three vehicles has claimed the life of a man at the Immigration Junction on Awka-Enugu expressway, Anambra, on Saturday. This was disclosed by the state Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi.
